After a bad storm in Monroe, I came home to find my water heater completely dead. No flashing light on the 10 year old 40 gallon unit. No hot water, and no power vent exhaust fan action. I called the Rheem Water heater home help telephone number and was told by the phone technician that my gas controller needed to be replaced. I called the plumber whose sticker was on the side of the tank and was told after he came out and charged me $65 for a service call that I had to replace the entire water heater for $1,400. I then tried a second plumber to get a second opinion and a second quote. I called Bob Lostetter from Lostetter Plumbing and was told that he could order out the gas controller as suggested by Rheem. He then quoted me a price for parts and labor. The day after he ordered the part he brought it over at 7PM in the evening and installed it. I now have hot water and the controller light flashes normally. I did not require a complete replacement water heater as suggested by the first plumber. Everything went smoothly. They came on time, hauled off the old water heater and toilet. Very reasonable on labor rates too!
