"Arrived on schedule. Went through the elimination process and determined problem was in the line to the pump or the pump itself (no water pressure). The service rep explained everything so that I understood fully what was going to happen. The pipe to the well motor was pulled up and a nickel sized hole was found in the pipe about 10 feet from the pump. The pipeline was galvanized metal and was very rusty. More holes were sure to develop; so, I had the whole line replaced. We also found the pump was 30 plus years old so, I had that replaced too. The service rep kept me informed through the entire installation process; as well as what to do after everything was completed. The pump had to be flushed with chlorine so, there is a short waiting process, tap flushing proceedure and water testing that he explained before leaving."

"We lost water to our home late Sunday morning, and, due to planned activities, I wasn't able to research well service companies until early Monday morning. The reviews on AL for Hahn's were all so positive so I gave them a call around 7:45. Ben had Jake at my home in less than an hour. Jake diagnosed the problem thoroughly, checking switches, fuses, electrical connections and amperage draw. Unfortunately, the pump motor has seized and was shot. Jake provided a quick estimate, including additional pricing if piping and other items would also have to be replaced. Fortunately, we did have PVC piping (not galvanized) and all other components were of good quality and in good shape. My price was on the lowest end of their estimate. The pump was replaced and everything reassembled. I was offered to also have the pressure switch replaced for an additional $25, which I did as this is only about $10 more than parts alone.
The well was fired up and water was run out a garden hose to get rid of the dirt kicked up in the well. The water cleared up in about 15 minutes. I let it run another 2-3 hours to help get rid of the chlorine that was used to help disinfect any impurities that might have entered the well. The water softener was set to bypass for 4-5 hours. I wish I would have turned the water off to the softener as some dirt did make it into my toilets when the pump was turned on. The toilet tanks had been mostly drained as we still flushed them with buckets of water during the period we were without water. I took "bypass softener" too literally - the engineer in me.
Very happy with Hahn's service and grateful for their fast response and friendly, quality work and reasonable pricing.

"Each job was done professionally. The tub faucet was over 25 years old and he knew where to go to get the replacement parts to get it fixed. He really knows what he's doing. The water heater he picked out for us is top of the line. We are very grateful for the fine service we got."

Small jobs welcome

"Jim is an AMAZING plumber. We needed a new electric water heater installed. When I reached out to Jim he promptly replied with a very reasonable priced estimate. On the day of the job he showed up 10 minutes early to our job and quickly completed it. Further, he's the type of person you feel good about having in your house. He was able to complete the job at the original estimate. I've had a lot of different plumbers in my house--Jim is definitely the one I will be calling back. Can't say enough good things about his work, professionalism, and personality."

"Excellent service for a first time customer. Definitely will be my first call/choice next time any well service needed. I called at 130 pm on a Friday simply expecting a replacement quote on a failing pressure tank. After having to leave voicemails for other competitors Hahns answered and quickly helped with a quote that was very reasonable. He offered to have someone stop by to verify the quote provided and that the tank needed to be replaced while he had someone else bring the tank. By 2:30 pm someone was on-site and verified tank was failing. By 3:45 pm the job was done. Both techs were extremely professional and friendly for a last minute on a Friday job."

"There was no leakage until about three weeks ago.  The crack then reopened and water is seeping through.  We have tried to contact them.  However, they shut down their email and three phone numbers.  They will not return any messages.  It was a lifetime warranty, but that does us no good if they are out of business.

The existing problem (and why they have C's from us) is that we have completely lost contact and have no way to get resolution."

"I was very pleased with their service. I asked them to follow up with me because I was thinking about replacing some fixtures, and I never heard back. I thought the price was very reasonable. I thought he did a wonderful job. I was trying to figure out how to turn the water off in my condo. I found a lever and it didn't turn. It had been broken. He was able to manipulate it so that it didn't need to be replaced. He showed me what to do so I wouldn't have to call him back. I would give him an A for all of the service questions, but for the follow up questions I would give him an F."

Water Softeners questions, answered by experts

The most accurate way to determine whether you have hard water is to purchase a water test kit from a hardware store or send a tap water sample to a lab. But there are some signs you can look out for without professional testing. For instance, if you're consistently dealing with mineral stains on your glassware, windows, and shower doors, you're likely to have hard water. Hard water can also make it harder to lather and rinse soap, so if you're struggling to work up a good lather in the shower, hard water might be the culprit.

Yes, a water softener can remove scale deposits. According to the U.S. Department of Energy, after you add a water softener to your home, “gradually the softer water will dissolve limescale scale deposits and remove the problem entirely.” Installing a water softener—or water descaler—will also help prevent new scale deposits from forming.

Most of the U.S. has hard water, especially across portions of the West and Midwest. The areas with the hardest water include parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Illinois, North and South Dakota, Ohio, and New York. You’ll find soft water in parts of New England, the Southeast, the Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii.

Because it’s been through the water cycle, evaporating and becoming slightly acidic thanks to dissolved carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, rainwater tends to be naturally soft compared to groundwater, which has just been in contact with limestone. However, the natural hardness level of water always depends on where you are and other factors.

You can decide whether you need a water softener or water filter based on how your bathing or laundry experience is. If you notice issues like limescale buildup, dry skin, or stains on dishes—all telltale signs of hard water—you'd likely benefit from a water softener. However, if your main concern is over chemicals or bacteria in your tap water filter, and not just comfort, a filter is a better option.
