"We will be using Schmitty's Plumbing for all of our plumbing work from now on! We were able to get an appointment quickly, and Brian was on-time, pleasant, and professional. He was clear upfront about costs and options, explained the work that was needed, and quickly made the needed repairs at a reasonable cost. We are very happy to have found a plumber that we have confidence in."

"The flexible water line on my toilet failed & I needed to turn off the water to avoid a flood. I used my Home Advisor app & put in a request for repair to two highly rated plumbing companies. Within 10 minutes I received a call from Hart's Plumbing! The Customer Svc lady (Devinn) was very polite & informative & offered to send a plumber out that day. But the next day was better for me so an appointment was made. The next day Prestin called to let me know he was on his way. He was also very polite, fixed the problem within a very short time & even gave me a Senior Discount! It was more expensive than I'd hoped but I am very pleased with my experience w/Hart's Plumbing."

"I was very pleased with the plumbing work done by Day & Nite’s service from making the appointment to the completion of the work. Technicians Jordan Sataraka and Juan Galicia called ahead, were on time for my service appointment, forthright about the cost, and performed quality workmanship. They were efficient with their time and skilled in their work. I most definitely recommend Technicians Jordan and Juan and would request them for future projects."

"Call the professionals at WA Water Heater! Our tank started leaking so called around for an idea of pricing and was very impressed with this company. They quoted a price over the phone and when I inquired about tankless, Steve came over for a consult. We decided replacing regular hot water heater tank was the best option for us and Steve gave me an estimate. James, the installer showed up early the next day, on time and ready to go. Hauled away the old one and stand and left our space in clean condition. Cannot say enough about how impressed I was with this company's professionalism, reliability, great work and honesty! James ended up doing more work due to our plumbing but did not charge us more. They stuck with the quoted price. He did a wonderful job and answered all of my questions. We highly recommend them. A++ all the way around and would hire them again without hesitation!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Shut-off valves, like any other piece of metal hardware, can corrode, age, get worn down, and eventually break or rust into place. Occasionally spray your shut-off valve with WD-40 to stall it from rusting. If it really gets stuck, a wrench and WD-40 will usually do the trick, but you will need to call a plumber if it’s completely unmovable.

A backwater valve’s purpose is to let the water flow in one direction. It works like a little door that allows water to flow freely in one direction but stops it from flowing the opposite way. A backflow preventer is meant to prevent water from leaving your system, locking out wastewater in the process. Backflow preventers are commonly used by city sewer systems to stop residential wastewater from entering the water supply.

You should flush your water heater at least once a year, with some experts recommending a schedule of every six to 12 months (e.g., once in the spring and fall). The ideal frequency depends on several factors.

If your area has hard water with high mineral concentrations, you should flush the heater more often—typically every four to six months. Additionally, a water heater that is used frequently may require more frequent flushing than one that is used less often.

Regular flushing is important because it removes sediment buildup from the bottom of the tank. This maintenance helps improve the heater's efficiency, extend its lifespan, and prevent issues like clogs, overheating, and increased energy consumption. You can either learn to perform this task yourself or arrange for a service plan with a professional plumber.

You can try several easy methods to unclog a drain, one of the easiest and most effective of which is to use a mixture of baking soda and vinegar. This will help dislodge and dissolve the clog to move it down the drain pipes. Pour 1/2 cup baking soda into the drain, followed by 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Dump several cups of boiling water (or hot water if you have PVC pipes) into the drain and let sit for up to one hour. Run hot water to clear the drain.

Hawaii is currently rated as the most expensive state for utilities. How much are utilities for a house in Hawaii? With electricity costs in Hawaii totaling nearly 42 cents per kilowatt-hour, residents are paying more to run their households than any other residents. Electricity costs in Hawaii are so high, mostly due to the fact that most of the electricity available to residents is produced using oil that must be shipped in from other places.
