"We had Near Me Roofing Company re-shingle my 2 story house. The crew was professional , clean and on time. On our first day, it started to rain and they were happy to re-schedule to another day of the week. We were very satisfied with the finished product and would recommend them."

"Johnson and Sons have done many major construction projects on our house. The latest was building a back porch with a landing. From working with us about the design to the finished project each step was of the highest professional level. Vic and Matt are amazing and their crew were skilled, hard working professionals. Johnson and Sons will always be our choice for expert construction projects."

"Project scope- renovate the office (including taking down walls), redoing the entire staircase (replacing carpet with wood, new rail design), converting space to wine closet/room, updating master bathroom, mudroom and basement, updating light fixtures throughout home, new baseboards. Kelly and his team were amazing and I would recommend them to anyone who wants quality work. They were very communicative throughout the entire process- from picking out products and materials (to which they referred me to a store that gave great pricing), approval and change orders from the original project scope. Friends and family were so pleased with the results and I couldn't have asked for better! On a side. note, Kelly is (or was) a firefighter with Snohomish County; I believe in supporting our local businesses and this was the icing on top of an amazing chocolate cake!"

"Iron Earth is the complete deal. They took down an 70 yr old garage that had seen much better days and replaced it with an exciting new garage and RV Port with a storage loft. Dan Faris and his crew did a marvelous job of tackling every step of the process; from planning, permitting, design, teardown, removal of old garage and every facet of the build. Unlike some contractors I've experienced in the past, he listened to our wants and needs. Discussing what could and couldn't be done while providing the details. I knew they were offering us to be partners in the process, not telling us what the project would be like others had. The team was professional and reliable i knew I could trust them in every facet. Iron Earth Construction and Dan Faris will be my go to for future projects, as I know I can rely on them."

"Japheth was professional in setting and keeping appointments. He was very communicative during the process letting me know the next steps and work schedules. He performed quality work and even did some things to ensure the deck has a long life. He protected the materials on site (from rain) and maintained a clean work area. I would use him again on future projects."

"While I did not hire this company ultimately, I remained very impressed that they came to the site fully prepared (they did a ton of research on my property) and were ready to go day one had we chosen to go with them. In the end, we only decided to go with another contractor due to their existing familiarity with the current neighborhood we were in however, Empirevue are a top notch professional company judging by our initial interaction and I will be reaching out to them again for our other projects"

Storm Shelters questions, answered by experts

While sheds are most certainly helpful for most homeowners, unfortunately, sheds do not add value to a home or property in the traditional sense. However, if the home has limited storage or garage space, having a shed to store things like decorations or lawn equipment can certainly be a positive if you want to sell.

The national average cost for a building permit is around $1,600, a figure that typically includes major renovations. Costs can vary significantly depending on the job. For instance, basic construction, plumbing, or minor electrical permits can cost between $10 and $150, while permits for building a new home can reach $2,000 or more. Overall, homeowners typically spend between $150 and $2,000 for one or more permits for a project. Keep in mind that fees may not be flat rates; they can also be calculated as a percentage of the project's cost or size.

Concrete blocks are the cheapest way to base a shed. However, the space in between allows critters to go under, burrow, and even damage your shed’s frame. For a more pest-proof option, consider building a shed base with gravel or paver stones. Both options are fairly affordable and easy enough for a DIY project. For gravel, you can build a wooden frame to contain the loose material.

Renting a storage unit is less expensive than renting a moving pod. On average, renting and shipping a moving pod costs $3,000, while a storage unit costs between $75 and $200 per month. Storage units also tend to provide more space, increasing their cost-effectiveness. The only instance in which storage units are more expensive than moving pods is if you need to rent the unit for an extended period of time.

A storm shelter's size depends on the number of people who will use it and the types of storms it provides protection from. Tornadoes typically only last a few minutes, so you don't need to spend very long in the shelter when one passes by. You'll want a tornado shelter that's big enough to provide 5 square feet of space per person.

Hurricanes usually last much longer than tornadoes, so you may find yourself in the shelter for hours, not minutes, if you’re facing one. If you're installing a hurricane shelter, you'll need at least 7 square feet per person.
