"My experience with Green City Heating and Air has been great from start to finish. First, Jeff, the owner, gave me various options for my heating and cooling needs and quickly followed up with a detailed written bid at a competitive price. He was also able to include some rerouting of ductwork and moving the position of my furnace for a more reasonable cost than the quotes I'd been given by the big HVAC companies. The HVAC techs -- Ron, Anthony, and Tyler -- were all professional, respectful of my home, really hard-working, and just nice guys to be around, and Debbie in the office has been so helpful and such a pleasure to deal with. Thank you, guys -- you're all awesome! But what impressed me most about Green City is how they reacted when we ran into a couple of unexpected problems: they were responsive, very fair, and worked on finding a solution I'd be happy with. This company seems to genuinely care about providing great customer service, and that's a rarity these days. I wouldn't hesitate to hire them again in the future and I'll be recommending them to all my friends and family."

"Allred is THE best. I had mini-split AC/heat installed almost a year ago. I love it and it's saving me significant money over using my central heating system. And no more hassle with portable air conditioners. I should have done this years ago. Even better is the 5 star customer service. Last week I had difficulty turning on the AC for the first time since last summer. I urgently called David on a Sunday. He immediately dove in to get me scheduled. Sebastian called me before making an on-site visit. Patiently walked me through a simple troubleshoot and shazaam! I turned right on. A+++ to both of them."

"Ranger did a great job. The estimators were friendly and thorough, the installers and team we encountered were all respectful and hard working. There was a problem with the electronics in the thermostat from the factory, they worked late and had to bring a new thermostat the next day, but the new one works perfectly. We will hire again for any other HVAC needs. We chose a higher quality AC unit and are glad we went with a quieter model, the unit is so quiet in the backyard."

"Tech performed HVAC system evaluation. He explained the issues with our system and gave us options from repairing the problem areas to replacing the entire 15 year old system. We are still reviewing the options. No pressure from the tech to make an on the spot decision. Highly recommend Pacific Heating and Cooling Company."

"Received 4 quotes. Cummings was the least expensive that I used to bargain two others to. They matched but had install dates of 30 days. Cummings had their electricians and HVAC guys here in 8 days. Installation done in 4 hours. All had good customer service & tech skills."

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Dirty filters are almost always the cause of poor airflow, so they should be regularly cleaned and then replaced as needed. The fan blades can also get dirty, so they should be cleaned when the unit is turned off. Make sure that the outdoor area around the back of the unit is unobstructed. Trees, shrubs, trash, and other objects could be too close to your unit.

Yesh, heat pumps can easily cool homes when the weather reaches over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, just as powerful air conditioners can. The key is sizing the heat pump correctly for the size of your home and your climate. A local heat  pump professional can help you determine the right size and type for your home.

Set your house temperature between 55 and 85 degrees Fahrenheit while on vacation, depending on the season. If it’s winter, don’t go below 55 degrees. In the summer, the best AC temperature for energy savings is no higher than 85 degrees. You can save anywhere from 10% to 15% on your energy costs by adjusting the temperature while you’re away. If you have a smart thermostat, set up vacation modes for each season. On your way home, turn off vacation mode to allow the home to warm up or cool down before you arrive.

You should know the main components of an air conditioner: the condenser coils, evaporator coils, drip pan, AC filter, ducts, and refrigerant. Each part plays a key role in the performance and safety of your AC system. When tracking the source of AC issues or odors, it helps to know where to look. Your outdoor unit houses your condenser coils, fan, and compressor. Your indoor unit houses your evaporator coils, drain lines, and filter, and it connects to your ductwork.

The difference between a home surge protector and an HVAC surge protector is that an HVAC surge protector is designed to protect the components inside your HVAC unit while a home surge protector is installed near appliances and meant to protect your entire home. There are three tiers of whole-house surge protectors, and they are more expensive to install than HVAC surge protectors.
