"Allred is THE best. I had mini-split AC/heat installed almost a year ago. I love it and it's saving me significant money over using my central heating system. And no more hassle with portable air conditioners. I should have done this years ago. Even better is the 5 star customer service. Last week I had difficulty turning on the AC for the first time since last summer. I urgently called David on a Sunday. He immediately dove in to get me scheduled. Sebastian called me before making an on-site visit. Patiently walked me through a simple troubleshoot and shazaam! I turned right on. A+++ to both of them."

"Our tired heat pump and air handler needed to be replaced after 20 years.  We solicited 3  bids for the work.  Ranger was very professional in their approach.  A formal computer generated bid was provided including tax.  Another company provided us with a hand written proposal with alternatives that I needed to interpret after they left.  Needless to say, Ranger Heating got our business.  Ranger scheduled with us an acceptable installation date.  They arrived on time and completed the work in one FULL day.  The area was left clean and everything worked as intended.  Ranger registered the heat pump and air handler with Trane and provided us with copies of the invoice and warranty for our records.  Ranger will also maintain records for future reference, if needed.  Excellent company to work with.

"Tanner Botts arrived earlier than the appt. time. Tanner was professional, service oriented and wore a ready smile. After he asked a few questions about our HVAC system he then took his time to respond intelligently to my many concerns & questions. Mr. Botts went to work immediately servicing our furnace. Once completed he reviewed for me all he had performed with the prowess of a technician, not a 'salesman', detailing some of plus's & failings of our 17 year old system. We have used 'Pacific' annually for many years & have are yet to find any failings. While their pricing isn't the most inexpensive among competitors, their products and quality service have been very reliable. Thank you Pacific!"

"Received 4 quotes. Cummings was the least expensive that I used to bargain two others to. They matched but had install dates of 30 days. Cummings had their electricians and HVAC guys here in 8 days. Installation done in 4 hours. All had good customer service & tech skills."

"We chose Bob and Air Flow Pros after an extensive search and comparison of different companies that offered duct cleaning. From the moment he picked up the phone, Bob was confident, caring, helpful and knowledgeable. He made me feel sure he would take pride in getting the job done, and done the right way. The ducts in our home smelled badly of dog from the previous owners, so bad we couldn't stand to use the air system at all. Bob was very understanding and fit us into his schedule within a week, when other, more expensive companies were scheduled 4-6 weeks out. When Bob and Sam came they were both friendly, professional and competent, and our home air smells great now! We are so grateful we discovered Air Flow Pros. Thanks, Bob!"

"Ron, the owner was fantastic, punctual, friendly, and helpful! Before we moved in, we wanted to get our air ducts cleaned. Ron answered all of my questions on the phone and was very helpful in explaining the work he would do and was very straightforward with pricing. Ron charged a flat rate that also included dryer vent cleaning and a sanitizing treatment. We didn't plan on getting our dryer vents cleaned but after seeing how much gunk he pulled out, we were so grateful he did it! It probably saved us from a fire. He showed up early, worked very quickly and was gave us some really valuable tips on how to clean out our furnace and do annual maintenance to upkeep our system better. Highly recommend. Thank you!!"

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

If your HVAC system's capacity doesn't match the required CFM (Cubic Feet per Minute), imbalances can occur. An undersized system struggles to maintain desired temperatures, leading to discomfort. An oversized system might short-cycle, wasting energy and causing temperature fluctuations. Properly matching capacity to CFM ensures efficient and consistent heating, cooling, and home ventilation system performance.

Yes, you should turn off your AC if it’s leaking. Turning off the system prevents more condensation from leaking and reduces strain on the unit if a damaged internal component or lack of refrigerant is the cause. While this may temporarily stop the leak, water can continue to drip from a thawing coil even after the system is off. As soon as you notice a leak, turn off the unit and investigate the source or call a professional for an inspection.

To find a reputable HVAC company, start by researching providers in your area. Look for companies with mostly positive online reviews and check the Better Business Bureau’s website for customer complaints. Next, verify their credentials. Rule out any companies that aren’t licensed, as this is a requirement in some states and municipalities, and confirm they are insured. Once you have a shortlist, contact each professional to ask key questions: How many years of experience do you have? Do you hold any third-party certifications? Do you have experience working on my specific type of HVAC system or brand? Can you provide references? What is your per-hour pricing? Do you offer maintenance contracts for ongoing savings? Do you provide a warranty for your work?

Not if you have a standard unit. Because portable AC units actually work to dehumidify the room, you’ll likely need to drain the unit from time to time—but you won’t have to put water into it. There is, however, another type of air conditioner called a swamp cooler that requires water to operate. If you have a swamp cooler, you may need to fill a reservoir with water and potentially ice. But a swamp cooler is different from a standard portable AC unit.

Yes, HVAC zoning systems offer energy savings by allowing precise temperature control in different zones in your home. Rather than conditioning the whole house uniformly, these systems direct airflow where needed, preventing energy waste. Tailoring comfort to specific areas reduces energy consumption and lowers utility costs, making HVAC zoning an energy-efficient choice.
