"Heidi and her crew were very kind, thorough, and considerate of both the short time I needed the jobs done and my budget. Upon meeting Heidi for a consultation I knew she would get the job done to my satisfaction. I had just lost my husband a couple of months prior to our meeting. She was empathetic and considerate of my budget. Not only did she and her team help me with painting, power washing and other small jobs that I needed done for the sale of my home, but also helped me with things like hanging large mirrors, electric fireplace's, pictures and other things that my husband would have normally done for us in my new home. She assured me that no job was too small. And she was right! Patrick is a delight to work with. Very pleasant and a hard worker. FYI if you put on some classic rock he might even sing a tune for you! These people are terrific and I will continue to use their services and recommend them to everyone I know!"

"We called Your House Matters along with several other contractors.  Ron was fast in getting back to us and came out to do an estimate after working a 12 hour shift.  I was anxious to get the job done as the renovation has run much longer then expected.  Our job was very small in size, but Ron treated us like it was equal to a large job contract.  Now that I have worked with Ron and Jason, I now wish I had found Your House Matters at the beginning of our renovation.  Ron was honest, reasonable and very hard working.  Him and Jason showed up on time, and were VERY cautious of our new floor we just had done.  They carefully covered up the entire work area to ensure no mess and kept their work area tidy and organized.  We had a couple of small problems but with Ron being a general contractor he solved them in a flash and I cannot express how happy I am with the end result.  I am already booking Your House Matters for our next project in two months and so excited to have found a contractor like Ron. that can help me to turn my home into my dream home over the years to come."

"They are a company that has a wide range of services. I was lucky to get an employee (Mike) that did the work for me. He did electrical, painted, stained, installation of light cover hand rails and smoke detector, fixed a piece of furniture, you would of thought this was his home. Then when there was a need for two people for part they for part of job they had them here. The main point is I would look for their help again if needed."

Hurricane Shutters questions, answered by experts

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Estate shutters offer more energy efficiency, privacy, and light control than blinds. They provide better insulation against heat and cold, lowering your energy bills. They’re also sturdy, durable, and last much longer than blinds (up to 50 years or longer). They’re also low-maintenance and can add curb appeal to your home. The return on investment (ROI) for estate shutters is around 75%.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.
