As of 11/13 I am back in VT having completed repairs to friends, family and others in FL and will be taking on projects here in VT again. I am scheduled back in FL for a couple of weeks in February to do some site work for a new build but plan on being in VT until Dec 25. I provide, Carpentry, decks, painting, vinyl siding, window & door replacement, flooring, concrete work & repairs. From new to repair services to renovations. I am a trained Mill & House Carpenter, Graduated from BVT in 1984, after a 2 years active service I returned home to the reserves and began my Construction Career. I have overseen projects up to $100million in value, in 2016 I/we started a new venture of buying and re-habilitating campgrounds in GA & FL. I am now semi-retired and decided to provide quality affordable small construction services. In the very near future I will be providing certified home inspections as soon as testing is completed. If you have a project that needs to be done, give me a call and we can get it done. Please when contacting let me know the scope of work, "type of work as well as 1, room, 2 rooms, etc, typr of room kitchen, bath, closet, etc." this will aid in my preparation to ask pertinent questions as well as limit the back and forth emails and speed up time for us both. Yes, you can paint galvanized chain link, but the process is a bit more difficult as it requires additional prep work. Before applying the primer and paint, you must remove the original coating from the metal, which can be time-consuming. If the original coating is not removed, the primer and paint will not bond properly and cause peeling over time.

You shouldn't paint a metal fence. Painting doesn't necessarily damage a corrugated metal fence, but these types of fences are meant to flex, and paint can easily chip and break off. Latex paints can address this issue, but those tend not to be very weather-resistant. Certain paints can trap moisture in the corrugation, which can rust the metal and lead to corrosion. And finally, if you paint a copper fence, it won't patina, which is one of the main reasons people buy copper.  

Stains penetrate wood best when it's cool and dry, so you want to avoid moisture. If the wood is wet upon application, or if it rains before the stain dries, the water will soak into the wood and displace the staining solution. This leads to a flaky and blotchy look, which is the opposite of a sumptuous even coat. Once the stain has fully cured, after about 3 days, rain shouldn’t cause you any problems.

The number of coats you need to apply when whitewashing a surface depends on how opaque you want the final product to be. If you're going for a transparent, barely there look, a single coat or two may suffice. For fuller coverage, you'll want to use multiple coats. Another option is to use a less diluted paint to get a thicker coverage. 

Applying a topcoat sealer is not required, but it will keep the stain from fading over time. This is particularly important if the stain imparts a color or varnish. If you’re staining exterior wood, you should apply a sealant or finish to prevent weather-related issues down the line. Also, stained wood that lacks a seal won’t look as clean and fresh. A clear topcoat will give it the professional result you want.
