"I'm sorry Mr. [Member Name Removed], my best friend passed away and I must have forgotten about your appointment. I didnt recognize your name until i looked it up in my calendar. Her funeral was the same day we were to meet. My apologies, Laurie"
"This customer took a year to write a review. I'm not sure why but I can say that I agree with him, there were some problems with a subcontractor on this job. However, as soon as we realized it we took care of it. We fixed some issues the customer wasn't even aware of. This garage is absolutely fine now so I don't understand why he waited a year to write a poor review."
I apologize for
the delay. We have taken on two huge contracts and can't get to anything small
now which is why your estimate has taken so long. We have been working on these
two quotes for a long time and have been in negotiations with them for the last
several weeks.
I'm sorry, I hope
you can find someone good to do the work. Take care.

"I don't understand why this customer has put a bad review on Angie's List. We decided NOT to bid on this job. No work was performed. The customer is having trouble getting contractors to do his job, there may be more to this review than meets the eye."
I had a call from Laurie minutes after the contractor left to give him the check. I told her it was already in the mail. I was thanked for my business.
I believe that this company is reputable. I think they probably do good work on large projects. I was given a verbal reference from another client that was satisfied with a very large job. They were impressd with the owners creativity. I did not have the opportunity to be on the receiving end of that creative expertise. I most likely would not come back especially for a small job.
"I have contacted this customer and requested a meeting to discuss her issues with the work. We were told by our employee (not a subcontractor) that this customer was very happy when the job was completed. I would also like to point out that this customer was not put behind other larger jobs. We do every job in the order it was received. Delays in the completion of this job were due to two issues, weather and the fact that other jobs prior to this one had rot issues that had to be addressed which slowed the job and delayed the next in line. We plan to take care of any issues this customer has."
"This was the second time we have been asked to do an estimate for this homeowner. Last year they asked us for a very involved estimate to repair their existing barn that had been left for years with no maintenance. We spent over 20 hours working on drawings and estimates for this customer for free. We called and emailed asking for a decision about the work. They never got back to us. We found out later on that they had hired another contractor to do the work which is fine but we would have appreciated an answer for all of our hard work. When we were called for this bathroom remodel project we didn't realize this was the same customer until I drove into the driveway and recognized the house. I went inside and looked at the project with both of the homeowners. They did not agree on exactly what they wanted to do with this bathroom. I took pictures and notes and returned to the office. I set up another appointment with our plumber who went back again and looked at the job. The plumber was very concerned that the homeowners were hoping to do this rather involved remodeling job for around $5,000 when in reality they needed more like $10,000-$15,000 to do the job correctly. The homeowner is correct, I did not get back to them with the bathroom estimate. I felt we had invested enough time with this customer. When we do an estimate for a new customer we are interviewing the homeowner just like they are interviewing us. After looking at the new project we knew this was not a good fit for our company. I should have called them and told them that but wasn't sure how to do that without offending them. Lastly, I am not sure why they are writing a review on our company since we were never actually hired!"
We chose another contractor for two reasons: 1) the estimate from Laurie's Certified Construction was almost $ 2000 more than the highest of three other estimates we received; and 2) I was a bit concerned about the few discrepancies in communication between Laurie and Angel. If I was going to spend an extra $ 2000, I had to have a lot more confidence that there would be consistency in information provided at the site and that provided from the office.
Pro-Tech Painting came with his crew. We questioned him to make sure he is EPA Certified. We are new here so we didn't know Vermont has very serious lead guidelines. We asked if painting in the cold weather would be a problem. He said November was a perfect time. We later came to find out that under EPA guidelines that you are not supposed to power wash the house. Laurie's husband actually helped with the power washing. He was supposed to lay out plastic around the house to make sure the lead wouldn't seep into the ground. He was supposed to post a sign outside notifying the neighbors of the project. During this project, he lost several employees. The paint was peeling off in sheets. The outside of the house was completely trashed with paint chips. We were in the process of adopting children. It is being held up because of the unsafe conditions with the yard and lead paint chips. We invited Laurie's Certified Construction to come out and look to see what we could do. She didn't see a problem with it. We ended up threatening with a lawsuit.
"As I stated before, we have answered this customer every time she has called, texted and e-mailed. The homeowner has been asked to contact the insurance company with any questions she may have. When we have a complete assessment from the lead expert and the insurance company, we will proceed with whatever steps they feel are necessary. I cannot make this process move any faster."
The weather calmed down and the next morning I called around. Laurie's was the first place to respond that could look at it 'today' .. I wanted it fixed that day because we had more rain forecasted.
She (Laurie) managed to shuffle some of her folks around and get a roof specialist out to my house that morning. It was great how quick her and her team got on the case. I made it clear that no matter what else was going on with the roof, I needed a 'quick fix' so that the rain expected for that evening would not cause more trouble inside the house.
After getting up on the roof the specialist quickly found some holes in the shingles. He left, went to the store, got some roofing tar/caulk stuff and came back promptly and filled the holes as a 'quick fix' ... which was what I wanted.
I then asked if I could get a quote for replacing the roof since he was there. So he measured things and Laurie quickly got me quotes for different types of roofing as well as seamless gutters.
I have not decided what to do yet but I will get a few more quotes just to be smart about it. The quotes are a little high looking, but the service and responsiveness so far lets me know that the company is professional and solid... two big marks in their favor.
The quick roof fix worked and has only leaked slightly during heavy rain since. I was happy with the service, if not with the roof.
