Customers say: Quality work

"Wilson is a skilled craftsman who has rescued so many of my fine antique pieces over the last 15 years. He is extremely talented and very easy to work with. I have given him broken, stained, desiccated and otherwise damaged wooden items that he has restored to their original beauty. I find his prices quite moderate and his work exceptional."

"I had five reach in closets that I wanted organized and Lori Parisi was absolutely fantastic in patiently walking through the design of each one with me. She was energetic, punctual, polite, and creative. She took the time to explain reasons for different sections being a certain height/width, and she helped me see my closets in terms of their maximum functionality. She even considered the height of my hangers in her calculations for maximum potential. Lori was detail oriented and I appreciated her double and triple measuring to make sure my custom builds would fit like a glove. Her customer service went above and beyond. Not only did she prepare accurate drawings on the spot, but she faithfully followed up with me and made revisions to each design as I continued to voice my needs. She has a great eye for three dimensional space. Her expertise was invaluable in pointing out details to consider for every stage- from planning, to installation, to daily use."

"Great company to work with from start to finish. From meeting Nick we were sold on the company, Ashley and Chase were very helpful and worked with us on many aspects of this build that we weren't knowledgable about. Crew that came out to do the work were respectable and friendly. 7th State will definitely be our choice for other projects around our home."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on furniture type, size, complexity, and whether additional modifications are needed.

While it is possible to build a wooden carport yourself, especially if you are skilled in carpentry, professional construction is recommended. Professionals ensure structural integrity, proper anchoring, correct alignment, and the use of quality materials for a stable and durable result.

Learning how to frame a house includes picking the right lumber for the job. Most people will want to pick pine, spruce, or fir for the framing. These types of lumber are affordable and produce sturdy framing for structures. Look for kiln-dried lumber to reduce the risk of shrinkage or insect damage after installation. As part of what’s included in framing a house when you hire a professional, the contractor should order the lumber, so you don’t have to worry about finding the right lumber.

Stick frames, metal frames, or prefabricated concrete frames are included in framing a house, along with creating the framework and space for windows, doors, and entryways. Other aspects of developing a home—like drywall, insulation, windows, doors, and more—are not included in the cost to frame a house.

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.
