"Our is 2.5 storey and steep roof. Owner visited and without getting on roof told me that you need to replace 2 flashings. The house is 9 years old and according to him ( I am not sure) it is better to replace flashing after 10-12 years any way. I think flashing should have same about 30 years life of roof. However, I accepted the recommendation as cost was $150. Also, I don't think they inspected or did anything on other side of the roof. He sent Brian in the following week to carry out work. Brian is really hardworking honest guy. He spent about 4 hours on roof to replace flashing and nail down singhles on one side of roof. I was not happy since they didn't even look at other side of roof. Since my $200 +79 was worth their effort of 4 hours I am OK with the service provided. However, I felt that they are giving this deal to generate more business. and chnging of flushing was not necessary. Anyway I was happy with Brian and hence I am giving A other wise I would have given B."

"Home Fix installed new windows several years ago. As part of that they put aluminum siding on the bump out under my bay window. The windows are great and I was very happy with them, but I discovered last year that the siding was leaking into my kitchen and much of the wood had rotted. Jonathan at Home Fix stepped in and helped me to resolve this problem. The company sent a team of two men to build an entire new bump out. They did a great job and there was no cost to me. "I considered a number of roofing contractors in my initial
search. Bevins was in the middle based on roof price. I selected the company in
part because of their word of mouth high level of satisfaction with my
neighbors and high degree of penetration they have in my neighborhood compared
to other roofers. The other important part of my selection process was the
professionalism and willingness to answer, sometimes on weekends, my many
questions about the project and respect my desire for it to meet certain
specifications.
Trey is a clear asset to this family run company. He is
informative and informed, understanding, tolerant, personable and professional.
He never tried to sell me a product, but understood the level of quality I was
looking for and made it happen.
I had considered the option to use other companies for the
carpentry, gutters and painting and pursued this option obtaining quotes for
the work. It was soon clear that the entire job required close coordination in
order to assure timely completion, and this commitment to a project timeline
was not possible with a patchwork of contractors.
Wayne manages the home improvement portion of the business,
and he is a fountain of knowledge and experience for Bevins. I worked directly
with him on the structural issues. He was very careful to be realistic about
knowns and unknowns related to the project, understood the reason I had the
wood rot to begin with and counseled me realistically about what I needed to do
to correct the problem and protect from future damage. We wanted to change the
look of the house by replacing square columns with tapered round ones, but
structurally this presented some challenges, which we reviewed completely. He
was very careful to explain the need to ensure appropriate load bearing for the
porch. We also discussed the gutters and my desire to upgrade to a commercial
size.
Mike and his wife are the painters. The folks at the
Benjamin Moore store talked them up highly. Mike is very patient, and he needed
to be. My wife had a terrible time choosing the color scheme for the house. He
provided color wheels and advice on the paint, but there was no pressure. The
final choices were made the day before the painting was to occur.
Our requirements: timeliness once the job began, protection
of our extensive planting beds, and cleanup.
The job: ROOF: we had excellent weather for the two days it
took for the installation. The work crew was sizable for the job and obviously
involved people who have worked well together before, thought there were also
clearly a few apprentices. They were very efficient and respectful. They had
dedicated individuals to continually clean up. All plants and our deck were
draped. No damage to our beds occurred during roof installation. They replaced
the shingles on my shed to match the roof, at a materials only cost. Hunter was
the supervisor and was very attentive and kept my wife informed of progress all
along. He had to return the day after the job was done to perform the magnetic
sweep for nails, but left very few to be found. Despite my own sweeps, I did
get a nail in my van tire the next day. Hunter noticed that I am retired
military and informed me about a GAF program offering a rebate. Took a reminder
to get the required paperwork from him, but he came thru.     
PORCH: 1 day of carpentry. Wayne was there to supervise and
recommended both a structural and cosmetic improvement change to our plan. Cost
more, but the end result is a better job. Took care of the poor J-channel
installation and flashing. Fixed another minor problem with the siding near our
garage w/o charge. Excellent result.
GUTTER REMOVAL/FASCIA: old gutters came off and fascia board
repaired mostly in the corners. I had asked about the use of synthetic board
and Wayne would do it, but didn?t think it was necessary. It would have cost
3-4x more than the lumber. There was a segment that I absolutely wanted in
synthetic because it had been a repeated rot problem. This he did.
PAINTING: Initially some confusion about the specification
for number of coats. My assumption of what was reflected in the quote was for 2
coats, the contract assumption was for 1 coat. We were using colors darker than
the base so 2 was critical. This discrepancy was unclear in my mind and added
$1000 to the job. Still the end result was justified and the price in the end
was still very competitive. Lesson learned- be clear in contracting
specification. The paint job was outstanding. The lines were clean and sharp,
coverage was good, no significant drips or spatters. We also had our doors
painted a red. Mike ended up putting multiple coats on the doors to make the
color appear as deep as it should. He was very patient.
GUTTERS: Kevin (I think) did the gutters. This would be a
challenge since in the back there is a valley that carries a lot of water and
always overflows. Went up last and took 2 days. The oversize gutters and
downspouts in addition to debris guard and splash diverters were installed.
Kevin recommended that on the roof at this trouble point he also install a
diverter to channel water from each side independently to separate gutters.
Since installation we have had several very heavy rains that would have previously
overwhelmed the system, but they worked perfectly.
Departures: (1) Wanted some rot at the base of one doorframe
repaired or replaced, but Wayne would not repair it because it wouldn?t meet
his long-term expectations without replacing the whole doorframe. Annoying, but
I respect his stand on quality. Can?t fault anyone for having high standards.
(2) During the painting some bushes were pretty badly broken up. Boxwoods are
brittle anyway, but I will need to do some aggressive pruning to even them out
this year and probably the next year. This week (1 month after completion) we noted that one previously healthy Knockout Rose has died. Don't know if this is related or not.
(3) The office was a bit sluggish at getting the paperwork correct the first time, but was very responsive in the end to meet our needs. Email transactions took a few days to happen but overall this was the way to go and made it so much easier to deal with the company. Thanks Amber.
Summary:  Bevins is a company I would most highly recommend either just for a roof or as a complete
solution and performed for me to a very high standard in all areas. It was
enjoyable working with everyone there. Wayne and Hunter were on the job
supervising daily, and both clearly enforce their high expectations. It is
sometimes a little slow maneuvering thru the office matters (most done on phone
or online). Price is not cheapest but is very competitive and the product is certainly worthy
of the expense. This is an honest, hard working, local company. That says it all.
