We contracted with Lofft Construction in May 2013. They began work in June, and finished up before the holidays. There were some minor things that occurred in January, but basically only finishing touches. I'm glad that I waited to give this review. I think a few weeks after the workers have left, I am able to more accurately describe and a**** the contract and job performed. In the end, we are very, very happy with how things worked out with Lofft. We always felt that there was tremendous value and craftsmanship in how they worked. They were very professional and the various crews were courteous and mindful of my family and the environment they were working in.
I also feel that there was always an attempt to make us happy as a client. When things didn't go perfectly, we always felt that they would try to remedy the situation. I feel that Lofft works with the mindset that their reputation is on the line with every job, and every client is important to them. I feel they genuinely want the client to have a good experience with their company.
Our job was big. it called for a complete gutting of the basement. Down to the dirt. We removed 100 year old pipes and addressed an increasingly annoying sewer issue. they found us a specialist out of Baltimore who lined some outside sewer pipes and we have been trouble free since July. We also moved the HVAC mechanical room from the basement to the attic and installed duct work. This is a big job and it involves a lot of family disruption. They were very courteous in this regard.
They also cut a big hole in our first floor and installed a new stairwell to our basement. this direct access has been a blessing. We used to have to enter the basement by first descending down the deck steps. This was never fun, especially in inclement weather.
Lofft helped/suggested materials for us to use. They've worked out beautifully. Really great quality at good prices. Our basement is fantastic. It has added 30% of useable space to our growing family.
When you go through a project of this magnitude, there are going to be things that don't go perfectly. There are so many moving parts that it's inevitable that frustrations will occasionally rise. However, I think it's also important to learn how to be a good client. Going through the experience, I feel I'm better for it. I think if we decide to hire Lofft to redo our kitchen in a year, I'll be a better client for them.
All that said, everyone's experience is going to be different. But we spent a considerable amount of money and had Lofft in our house for about 6 months, and I wouldn't have it any other way. We'll hire them again I'm certain.

This ended up being a big problem, with flooding and gunk backing up into the house [the problem would ultimately be diagnosed as tree roots growing into our sewer line]. Thomas E. Clark first sent out a plumber to do an initial check, and once he determined that we needed to send a scope and snake into our sewer line, he called a drain technician to come out. The drain technician who came out was incredibly nice and professional, but completely misdiagnosed the problem the house was having. No need to get into the weeds of his diagnosis, but after scoping the sewer line, he made what turned out to be a pretty basic error in identifying where the clog was. Sure, people make mistakes, but based on the faulty advice we got, we had to have technicians from the city come out that night (on an emergency call ), only to tell us of the error made by the plumber and that in order to have the problem fixed, we'd have to have the plumbers come right back out to diagnose it properly. I then called Thomas E. Clark to come back and take another look at the sewer line, to catch the problem that they missed the first time, and ultimately give me an estimate as to what it would cost to fix the problem. (Mind you, this will now have been a third visit from Thomas E. Clark, and by this point we had paid them about $700 -- and still had not gotten an estimate to fix the actual problem.) Here's where we had the biggest problem - the third guy to come out (Joe, who I believe is one of their managers) suggested that there was a chance that he was going to bill us again for the company's services if they were to take off our toilet and scope the sewer line again. By even making that suggestion, he failed at a basic principle of providing services - when one of your subordinates screws something up and you have to send someone more senior in to clean up the mess, you do not hold the client responsible. I then had what can only be described as a ridiculous conversation (for about ten minutes) with Joe where we haggled over whether I would have to pay another $600 or so for him to look into the sewer line again. They ended up not charging me for the visit, but that we even had to have that conversation was absurd. Then, two more problems. One, for what ended up being about a $10,000 job, his estimate was just scrawled as about two sentences at the bottom of an invoice - no substantive details about the work they'd do, or of the actual cost breakdown. For such a big project, it was perfunctory at best. And he was also incorrect about the permits we'd need - he suggested that we might need a $3,000 permit, which would be our responsibility -- this turned out to be inaccurate. The plumbers we ended up going with explained the permitting issues much better, and handled them all for us. The folks at Thomas E. Clark were all reasonably nice people and I'm sure they're wonderful plumbers, but after this experience, they came off as careless and a bit sloppy. They snaked out the sewer lines to over 75 feet, and the problem appeared to be solved -- although the technician said that snaking the pipe further than 75 feet would require equipment that he did not have on his truck at that time. Again, the problem appeared to be taken care of completely.
Two days later, we discovered another sewage back-up in our basement and called Derrick at Wheat who dispatched two technicians within a couple of hours. (Anyone who has dealt with plumbing companies knows this response time was truly remarkable.) The two technicians worked (really WORKED) for three hours, removing toilets and snaking the line out to over 115 feet. Now the problem seems is taken care of.

Their price was $3000 cheaper than others. We got a 20% lesser price on full sewer line repair with excavation. They excavated very carefully not to damage landscaping. They kept me informed of each step of work they did along the way. There were some things that happened during the excavation that they could not avoid, and they were pretty conscientious. Once they got down to the sewer line they kept us with sewer and water every night, which sometimes does not happen. They were conscientious with small kids. When they did the repair they pulled out the permits and all the licenses that were required and worked with the DC government really very well. They made sure that the repair that they did was done with the right speck as there was a good grade going through. You need a certain degree of drop from the house to main sewer so that it worked properly. They even repaired a piece that was underneath the pipe that was also in the wrong angle. They went above and beyond in finding and correcting everything with no extra cost. They supported the line appropriately. They back filled so that when it collapse there is no problem. They refilled the whole empty lines well. There were big pieces of rock and concrete that involves the filling. They put them on the side for disposal. They were excellent. They are the best of plumbers I have seen. I will recommend them to everybody."},"url":"https://www.angi.com/companylist/us/md/laurel/ars--rescue-rooter-laurel-reviews-217496.htm"},"position":7},{"@type":"ListItem","item":{"@type":"LocalBusiness","name":"Stevens Co","address":{"@type":"PostalAddress","addressRegion":"VA","addressCountry":"US"},"review":{"@type":"Review","author":{"@type":"Person","name":"Mary P."},"reviewBody":"Technician called before coming over to determine what the problem was and indicated that the clogged sewer line was a two-man job. Both employees were competent and efficient. The cost estimate included time to tape/clean up our bathroom to avoid a mess when snaking the line, which the plumber indicated would be difficult. Then he found access to the sewer line through our utility closet, which required very little prep/clean-up. I asked about a discount for the easier job and was told that the price was firm. The job was done correctly and quickly in less than 1.5 hours total (two men). Upon getting a second opinion and a rescope of the line it was determined that the running trap at my property line needed cleaning which ultimately solved the problem. No separation found. "Needed to replace a 25+ year old HVAC system in the coldest months of the year, so I contacted Advanced Environment Solutions for a bid. I worked with Tammy at AES to schedule the inspection, follow-up, etc. - a fantastic employee. Courteous, professional, and really knows her stuff when it comes to HVAC. Unfortunately, I live in a condo with a tricky indoor/outdoor HVAC set-up that ended up requiring a fairly specific indoor unit that AES did not offer, so I had to go with another company. Still I felt compelled to leave a review for AES and Tammy to highlight their professionalism and service-oriented approach. WiIll absolutely consider AES for future projects."

FAQs for sewer line repair projects in Boyce, VA
The average cost to snake your main sewer line is around $250 for a simple snake. Most sewer line specialists charge between $45 and $200 per hour for main sewer line snaking, so the time involved plays a major role. The price you’ll pay will depend on the severity of the clog, the item causing the backup, how long it takes to remove the item, and more. A more severe issue that requires unclogging a main sewer line will cost $3,100 on average.
Yes, most states require plumbers to be licensed, and for good reason. Hiring an unlicensed plumber could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.
As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:
The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check
Required to have applicable state and local licenses
Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review
Paying to advertise their services
Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi
Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
You should not attempt to snake your sewer yourself. Accessing and snaking your sewer requires heavy-duty equipment, and while renting is possible, misusing it can damage your sewer main and leave you with very expensive repair costs, not to mention potential environmental issues and severe water damage. Accessing your sewer also exposes you to hazardous sewer gasses, and failing to seal the sewer properly after work can be very dangerous. It’s always best to hire a professional sewer cleaner near you to handle this type of work.
The average cost to unclog a drain is around $200, with prices ranging between $110 and $800, depending on the type of drain and the extent of the clog. Hiring a professional to snake the toilet or sink will usually cost between $110 and $275, a bathtub or shower typically costs around $225, and a main line clog can cost between $100 and $800 based on the severity of the clog and how far beyond the access point the clog sits. Since the labor involved varies, most plumbers will charge an hourly rate for drain cleaning.
The average cost to hire a plumber is around $100 an hour but can vary between $45 and $200 an hour depending on the plumber’s experience and the repair that you need. It’s also important to note that these prices can go up on holidays, and emergency plumber rates average $150 per hour, in addition to a flat-rate trip fee of $100 to $350.
