"This spring in Dallas was **** for rain and wind, and I was starting to lose some ties on my roof. I called Jess, because his business has been a long-term supporter of the Dallas Harlequins, and he got me set up with my insurance, and the process was on with this request: "As soon as the weather allows, gitter done" (because for weeks, you couldn't). And that he did. He started work on Friday, June 7, got nearly all of it done in one day, but was cut off by my neighbor at 7PM, because "it's 7PM" and she was adamant. I'm tremendously grateful that Jess came and finished the job Saturday morning, because we all know what the storm-pocalypse was like on Sunday, June 9. I suspect there are still neighborhoods that are recovering. I can't imagine the damage that might have been done to an unfinished roof. So thanks, Jess for getting after this and following through to gitter done! (Plus, with the radiant barrier, my electrical bill is down, and the new tiles are so much more massively durable, I can be confident in another very long run before roofing maintenance.)"

"The basement king was a pleasure to work with. His knowledge is unmatched in the Texas area for sure. I received multiple quotes and talked to multiple companies and he was the best. He's passionate about his work and the manner in which it's done. If he says something, it happens. An added benefit was their cleanliness. Usually a job site of this size and complexity is a mess, but not with the basement kings. 10/10!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

In Tyler, homeowners often balance the benefits of using advanced moisture barriers and structural reinforcements against project timelines and home disruption. Choosing between temporary fixes and comprehensive structural repairs is common, especially with older homes. Prioritizing a thorough structural inspection before starting work can help identify hidden issues, ensuring long-term stability and reducing the risk of future repairs due to shifting clay soils.

Helpful?

New homeowners in Tyler should start with a detailed structural inspection to assess the foundation, especially for pier and beam or slab types. Evaluating the effectiveness of existing moisture barriers and checking for proper drainage around the home are crucial. It’s also wise to inspect attic framing for ventilation and wind resistance, and to ensure grading directs water away from the structure to prevent future foundation problems.

Helpful?

In Tyler, cosmetic projects like adding decorative beams or removing non-load-bearing walls focus on aesthetics and usually require less time and fewer permits. Functional projects, such as foundation repair or reinforcing structural supports, address safety and long-term stability. These often involve more extensive planning, structural inspections, and may require temporary relocation, especially in homes affected by shifting soils or moisture intrusion.

Helpful?

In Tyler, delaying structural engineering can worsen foundation settlement, especially with the region’s expansive clay soil. This may lead to cracks, uneven floors, and even plumbing leaks. Prolonged moisture exposure can accelerate wood rot and compromise structural integrity. Additionally, unresolved issues may affect your home’s resale value and make future renovations more complex due to stricter code requirements.

Helpful?

In Tyler, structural engineering projects may involve structural engineers for assessments and planning, foundation repair specialists familiar with local soil conditions, and general contractors experienced in structural renovations. There are also contractors who focus on moisture barrier installation and drainage improvements, as well as those specializing in concrete and framing work. Many local professionals have expertise in addressing the unique challenges of older East Texas homes.
