"Terrific response time! Called for quote at 12:24 pm. Jim quickly evaluated my need for two 50 gallon gas water heaters. Recommended Bradford White gas water heaters to replace my 20 year old rusting water heaters. His crew of 3 arrived at 1:30 pm and by 3:30 pm new water heaters installed and old water heaters removed from 3rd story walk in attic. Very efficient and clean installation. Price exactly as quoted. If you need water heater replacement call Jim at Water Heater Pros!!!"

"I was out of town so the work was scoped and performed with authorization over the phone. The original request was to replace the faucet with a new one I purchased from Home Depot. When the plumbers arrived, they quoted $550 to install the new faucet set. This was way too high so I asked if they could simply replace the Moen cartridge and ensure no leaks. They said yes and would call me back with details. They called back and said it would be $226 to replace the cartridge. I knew the part was $22 from Home Depot so I asked why it would be so high. They began listing charges such as "service call fee (their shop is only 4 miles away)", "labor" "water shutoff fee" and "parts". I have never heard of a plumber charging "water shutoff" fee. I mean they are plumbers, that is what they do. That is like a truck driver charging a "steering fee". As I was out of town and we needed the shower operational, I authorized the repairs. I do not think that a repair should be nine-times the cost of the part. I do not believe I will be using Heaton again.

"Perfect. My technician was polite, professional and answered all my questions and concerns. In addition to the water heater flush, he replaced two leaky valves, showing me what the issue was and without being pushy (it may have been okay to wait, but I could see the potential issue myself). Thanks for a job well done and being so pleasant and helpful!!"

"Luis initially came to fix a leak in the main bathroom. I had him look in the attic and he noticed that the vent on the hot water heater wasn’t correct. He spent all day fixing the plumbing and installing a new hot water heater, vent and roofing!8"

Water Heaters questions, answered by experts

On average, a tankless water heater should last between 10 and 15 years. Its lifespan will be affected by how much it's used, the effect of weather where your home is on the unit—colder is harsher and will shorten lifespan—and if the heater is maintained appropriately and regularly. There are many signs your water heater needs to be replaced, so pay attention to anything that changes with your heater or hot water.

When installing a new furnace, it's a good time to consider other projects that can enhance your home's energy efficiency. A great first step is to get a home energy audit, which will identify areas for improvement. Common recommendations include sealing or replacing windows and adding insulation to the attic. These upgrades can help you save money on monthly utility costs. You might also consider installing a smart thermostat to make heating your home more convenient and efficient.

When replacing an old unit, you might want to switch from a gas water heater to an electric water heater or vice versa. To do this, you will likely need to add infrastructure to the area. For example, you likely don’t have a gas line that served your old electric water heater. You’d have to call a plumber to put in a new gas line. If you’re replacing a gas unit with an electric one, the plumber will need to safely cap the old gas line. You will then need an electrician to add wiring for the new electric unit.

Homeowners insurance may cover the repair or replacement of a water heater if it's damaged by a covered peril, such as a fire or a burst pipe. However, policies typically do not cover repairs or replacement needed due to normal wear and tear, old age, or lack of maintenance. For these issues, a home warranty or a manufacturer's warranty may provide coverage. While the policy might not pay to fix or replace the malfunctioning appliance itself, it often covers the cost of water damage restoration caused by the faulty water heater. Always check with your insurance provider to understand the specifics of your policy.

Yes, you can convert a gas water heater to an electric one, but it is a complex process. You will need to ensure there is adequate power for the new electric unit, as they require more power than gas models. The project also involves safely closing off the gas lines and ventilation, and some cities may require a permit for the conversion. The cost can range from $1,500 to $4,100, depending on the installation scope, plumbing and electrical work, and the water heater model. For an accurate quote, it's best to contact a local professional. Also, be aware that your monthly utility bills may increase after the conversion, as natural gas is typically cheaper than electricity.
