"I CANNOT say enough good things about Tecton. Aaron Utter and his team were incredibly patient and catered to every ask on this project, bringing our dream patio to life. He pays attention to every detail and ensures it's done accurately, even if that meant doing the masonry himself folks. We don't like our new living space... we love it. I highly recommend Aaron as a Mason, an honest contractor, and as an all-around good human. Instead of putting extra money in his pockets, he makes recommendations for you per YOUR budget, not his. 10/10 and more than 5 stars are deserved. Dreaming up another project in 3, 2, 1..."

"After fixing my foundation and it being a 30yr plus house, I had various bricks and seams that needed to be repaired. The crew was very thorough and efficient. I would highly recommend Maltos Masonry."

"Looks great, good match to the existing mortar, cleaned up after themselves and stopped my leak. Highly recommend! Only downside was a waiting period but it was worth the wait!"

"I have not used the company, YET. I plan to though! Chris, the inspector who checked out my foundation was a peach. He arrived on time, even though I, myself was late! He was polite, friendly and professional. He squeezed himself into my tiny crawlspace and took amazing and accurate photos of the foundation. He showed me the pics and told me exactly what was going on, how to repair it in detail and what to expect. I had Cornerstone come out several weeks before I called Pinnacle and they gave me a totally different story that would have cost me a LOT more money! I will definitely be calling Pinnacle later this year to take care of my foundation issue."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Reappearing stair-step cracks are a clear sign that previous masonry work failed to address ongoing soil movement. In Richardson, using improper mortar on older homes causes the surrounding brick faces to flake or spall. You must redo these repairs to prevent further structural damage. Recurring white salt deposits, crumbling mortar joints, and leaning retaining walls also indicate that prior waterproofing or drainage repairs cannot withstand the humid TX climate.

Helpful?

When reviewing quotes for masonry work, watch out for contractors who ignore local soil conditions. Richardson has expansive clay soils, so a proposal for crack repair must address foundation movement. Another red flag is a quote that fails to mention specific mortar matching for older homes. Using modern mortar on soft brick causes severe damage. Finally, avoid any professional who discourages pulling necessary permits or lacks the general liability insurance required in TX.

Helpful?

Exterior brick veneer walls are the most common areas requiring masonry work due to heat exposure and clay soil movement in Richardson. Chimney crowns and upper mortar joints also degrade quickly after frequent severe weather and hail. Additionally, steel supports above windows rust in the humid TX environment, causing surrounding bricks to crack. Finally, expect to maintain base brick courses, aging retaining walls, and detached mailbox columns over time.

Helpful?

To ensure smooth masonry work, schedule your project during the mild spring or fall months. Extreme Texas summer heat prevents mortar from curing properly. Next, secure necessary municipal permits and check your homeowner association guidelines for exterior changes. If your project involves excavation for new walls, state law requires calling to locate underground utilities beforehand. Finally, allow extra lead time to source matching salvage brick for older Richardson neighborhoods.

Helpful?

As a new homeowner, prioritize masonry work that protects your exterior brick veneer. Many older homes in Richardson require fresh mortar due to heat cycling and heavy rains. Next, clear out clogged weep holes at the base of your walls to prevent moisture buildup. You should also have an expert assess any existing brick cracks to determine if expansive TX clay soils are causing foundation movement. Finally, inspect aging retaining walls and chimney crowns.
