"We hired Brick Experts to do several projects at our house in Grapevine: - Stabilize a wing wall that had sunk by a couple of inches - Repair/complete some brick work that was incomplete when we bought the house - Repair several cracks in the mortar joints on our house and on our mailbox - Stabilized the brick work over our garage door (it was sagging and causing cracks in the mortar) David's crew did excellent work across the board. Their attention to detail was excellent, even despite the extremely hot weather (it was 104 degrees one of the days the crew was working!). I also appreciated that David checked in at the job site regularly to make sure the crew was on track, and performing the work properly. Ultimately, the crew did a great job, and for a very reasonable price. Regards, Scott"

"Blaney Stonework and Landscape in Richardson, Texas is truly a top-notch company for all your stonework needs. We’ve hired them for three separate projects, and each time they delivered outstanding results. The craftsmanship was exceptional—thoughtfully designed and executed with great care. Communication throughout each project was excellent, and everything was completed on time. They also maintained a clean jobsite, which we really appreciated. The final outcomes were absolutely gorgeous and far exceeded our expectations. These projects have significantly enhanced our home’s value and serve as the proverbial "cherry on top" of our curb appeal. Highly recommended!"

"Excellent! Concrete slab area needed quite a bit of preparation. Some of which was above and beyond initial job description. It was done in an efficient and timely manner. All trash and debris hauled off daily! The deck and fence turned out great. The knowledge and experience these guys have was very helpful."

"Heath and his crew did a fantastic job! We had a couple of half inch cracks over our garage that were only getting bigger. Heath came out when he said he would and gave us a couple of options. We elected to go with concrete piers. Heath and Katie were excellent at communicating the process and performing the work when they said they would. They were even able to save some of our plants. I honestly didn’t expect for any of them to survive. The results were amazing! I highly recommend them for any foundation repair needs that you may have."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

Masonry work tends to be more expensive because the materials can be costly, such as natural stone and brick. Masonry is also very labor intensive, typically making up 50% or more of the final project cost. In addition, quality masonry work requires years of training and experience, as with any skilled trade.

Drilling into brick doesn’t have to be a dangerous project if you prep and approach it with the right tools and techniques, but it does come with risks if it’s not done correctly. It can lead to significant issues, such as damaging the brick or affecting the wall’s structural integrity. Applying too much force can crack or chip the brick, while incorrect placement might compromise its load-bearing strength.

Choosing the right paint color for your brick house can be a daunting task. A great strategy is to find painted brick houses that you like and try to replicate the look by researching their colors or asking the homeowners for the specific paint color code.

If you're looking for specific ideas, several colors work well on brick. Different shades of white, such as off-white or cream-white, can create a modern, timeless, and classic look that is unlikely to go out of style. For a more contemporary aesthetic, you might consider a matte black tone. Other popular choices include gray, blue, and sage green.

The best tool for drilling into brick or mortar is a rotary hammer drill which is a large hammer drill with low rotation speed and high torque. Regular drills with a hammer function are also excellent tools for drilling into brick when the diameter of the hole is 1/2 inch or less. It might be possible to drill into brick with a standard drill if you’re only drilling a very small hole, but note that masonry work will put a lot of wear on a standard drill, and the tool may not be strong enough to get through brick.

Brick can increase the value of your home depending on the type of masonry materials used. Homes generally have a higher resale value when they have brick siding, and brick is also easier to maintain (and lasts longer) than other types of siding, which can motivate buyers to make an offer.

Just keep in mind, however, that although brick can up the asking price when you sell your house, the cost to brick a house is also more expensive than other typical siding costs—so you’ll invest more in the project.
