"My only issue with the blown insulation was that the company blew the insulation over the few items in the attic. My daughter was at the house when it was done and said they didn't ask if it should be moved. They installed measuring tape in different places throughout the attic to ensure the proper depth was achieved and pointed these out when done. They also installed the air vents on the angles to ensure the air flow was proper."

"We would recommend On the Spot. They removed all insulation in attic and basement and replaced it with the appropriate insulation for the house. They covered floors, had a dumpster and left no mess."

Small jobs welcome

"Reeds reinsulated our attic of 70 years. The former insulation had settled well below the rafters. The work crew vacuumed out the old, sealed around all openings to lights, fans, etc and then blew brand new fiberglass insulation to knee depth. We now have lofty, R-40 rated protection in a 2600 sq' house that heats evenly through out. Reeds will return to encapsulate our crawl space in one month!"

"Before removing or cleaning anything we would set up a 3200 cfm air scrubber on the outside of the building tied into one of
the foundation vents to create a negative pressure in the crawl space. This will keep dust, mold and odors from traveling
upstairs and harming tenants. Next all the crawl space vents will be sealed using foam board and expanding foam. All visible
floor penetrations such as holes where wires and pipes extend through the sub floor will also be sealed. Once everything is
sealed and a negative pressure has been created we will begin the project. The project would start with a deep cleaning of the
crawl space area. All debris would be removed including old vapor barrier, trash, large rocks, old pipes, etc.
All insulation will be removed. It will be bagged and hauled away all in same day.

Mold will be cleaned from the wooden surfaces in the worst affected area by using the swipe method. Using a shop towel
(heavy duty paper towel) all wood surfaces will be swiped, the towel will be folded then swiped again untill all mold particles are
removed, never rubed into the surface. The cleaning solution ''Advanced Cleaning Solution'' made by Anabec. After thoroughly
cleaning the affected wood surfaces we will apply ''mold control''. Concrobium Mold Control effectively eliminates and prevents
mold with no bleach, ammonia or VOCs. Concrobium works as it dries by crushing the mold spores at the roots and leaving
behind an invisible antimicrobial barrier to prevent future mold growth. This will be applied by use of a fogger. The fogger
guarantees every square inch is covered.
$535.00
Install new r-19 insulation. Use insulation brackets to hold insulation tight to the subfloor. All subfloor area will be covered.
$1,125.00
Install new 6 mil reinforced white vapor barrier covering 100 % of the soil. All seams will be taped with heavy duty poly tape.
The vapor barrier will extend 12-14'' up the foundation walls and attached with mechanical fastners. Provide a remote
hygrometer. Using this you can monitor the conditions in the crawlspace without having to go down there.

"We have signed our contract to receive solar. Even though we are not getting installed for a few weeks, I want to say how happy we are that we chose SunPro. Wayne always answered my calls or returned them very quickly and always had the most up to date information and answers for my questions AND concerns. Despite a hiccup from another salesman under SunPro, Wayne was still able to accommodate our wants, needs, and concerns. The customer service is top notch. I can't wait to get everything up and running soon!

"Heater stopped working approximately a week before service visit. As I was out of town, wife and kids had to keep warm in evening hours. After pondering who to contact I chose to join Angie's List and found many great recommendations for R&M. Reconginizing their logo from their website I realized this was the one to call. When setting up my appointment on Monday March 29th I explained that while their website had many great promotions I didn't know what the problem was so I couldn't take advantage; however, I did need someone to come out. Honestly I was expecting a couple of days, but, I was offered a same day appointment. Unfortunately I couldn't take due to work conflict; however, they offered me an appointment for the next day. Right on time the service rep showed up. Not knowing the problem I was bracing for an expensive fix. However, the rep first identified the need to replace the transformer before determining any other problems. Once replaced he quickly identified the exposed air conditioner wires. The rep was very thorough, professional and polite and after answering some of my quesitions proposed a special they were having on equipment "tune-up" and also a $25.00 off coupon I could quickly download while he finished. Overall, while I added a "tune-up" service for a date to be scheduled I ended up with enough parts and labor discounts that it cost me the same. The service was great and truly came from recommendations from other Angie's List members."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

While freezing pipes are less of a concern in warmer climates, pipe insulation can still be beneficial because it helps prevent condensation on cold water pipes, reducing the risk of moisture-related issues like mold growth. It also helps maintain water temperature, reducing the energy needed to heat and cool the water, which can ultimately lower your utility bills.

Yes, many services include adding insulation for energy efficiency. Confirm with your contractor.

We do not recommend fiberglass insulation for soundproofing purposes, especially if you are working on a room that’s part of your living space. Fiberglass insulation is dangerous, and the installation process is hazardous. It is also harmful to the environment. When there are so many newer, healthier non-fiberglass alternatives in the market, the lower cost of fiberglass insulation simply doesn’t justify the harm and danger it poses.

Heat lost through uninsulated basement walls can account for up to 30% of the total energy lost through heat transfer to the outdoors. While homes in mild climates won't gain as much benefit from having an insulated basement as those in cold climates, the effects are still noticeable on your energy bill.

Don’t install insulation near water heaters, oil burners, or any other object that gets hot. Many insulation materials are fire-resistant, but not entirely fire-proof, so you should take precautions to keep hot things away from fiberglass. This is also why it is imperative to box off lighting fixtures and breaker boxes.
