"I met with a couple of the larger corporate solar companies and got the used car salesman feeling after hearing their sales pitch. Jon was knowledgeable, patient, and down to earth. He took the time to design a system that fit my needs perfectly and has performed as advertised. The install was done in a day and the workmanship was flawless. Jon even lined up a crew to trim and remove any trees that blocked the panels. I have recommended this company to friends and family and will continue to do so."

"While I did have MANY problems with my solar panels, it ultimately had nothing to do with Detail Solar and everything to do with the company who sold me the panels. But eventually, I was able to get the panels removed so I could replace my roof, and then reinstalled and fixed so that all of them are working now."

"Our water tank died and as I was going to be out of town over the weekend I need the water tank replaced the next day a day before I left. Hunter was able to purchase and install the tank the next day and was accurate to the quote he provided over the phone with no "extra" charges. He was professional and courteous during the install. I have recommended him to my neighbors."

Solar Panels questions, answered by experts

There are a few qualifying questions you should ask a local solar panel company before hiring them:

  • Will you handle permits for the installation?

  • Does your total price include the equipment and labor?

  • How long do you expect the installation process to take?

  • What kind of workmanship warranty do you include with your installations?

  • Who should I contact if I have a problem with my system after installation?

  • Do you install the panels or outsource the work to third parties?

  • Will you file for solar incentives for me?

It’s possible that installing solar panels can lead to mold on the roof. The panels themselves are not the issue. Problems caused by improper installation—such as roof leaks and mounts that aren’t sealed properly—can cause mold. Another potential cause of mold is debris accumulation under panels, which can trap moisture. If you live somewhere with extreme snow, rain, or hail, your home could be more prone to mold.

While you can minimally overshoot the number of solar panels you need for your home, it's not smart to go too far. Not only is the extra cost unnecessary, but your state may put caps on how much energy your home can produce and send back to the grid. It is always best to work with a solar energy professional to determine the best system size for you.

Removing solar panels can be straightforward, but it’s not necessarily a simple process. Your contractor needs to prevent damage—not only to your panels but also to your roof and electrical system. Many systems are wired into the main electrical grid, and you’ll need to hire a licensed electrician to disconnect it.

Rooftop solar panels supply energy to a single household, where a solar farm can power multiple homes at once with clean energy. Residential rooftop solar panels cost more per watt with a lower project total, and those panels only service the residence they are installed on (in most circumstances). With a solar farm, multiple households can buy into the project and share the overall cost.
