"Burks Electric installed a new panel and GFCI outlets throughout my rental home, where required, and ran electric to the garage. The price was reasonable and he even got it inspected and approved for me quickly. Looking to hire him for my next project!"

"We did not know what we needed; all we knew was the bathroom light was tripping the GFI and that an outside power outlet was not getting any power at all. Brad G and his partner Nick were extremely punctual (I was on a standby list); came professionally dressed and ready to diagnose and fix our issues. Very quickly they identified that the bathroom GFI was wrongly wired but was ready for replacement. They immediately identified the switch controlling the outside power outlet was burned and offered alternative solutions than simply replacing it based on how we are using the outlet. With the coupons from Angie's list; these two repairs were a lot less than we expected. Brad and Nick were extremely courteous, tidied up after themselves and explained what was going on with each issue. We highly recommend them and would definitely hire again for future electrical issues."

"He was very thorough. Identified Problems quickly, determined cause of the problem, which was remedied. Retested the area to determine that his assessment was correct before stating the issue was corrected. Very professional. In the future, if I have appliance concerns, I want him to return."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

In Conway, address electrical issues like power outages, burning smells, sparking, hot outlets, or frequent breaker trips right away, as these signal safety hazards. Projects such as installing new fixtures or adding outlets can wait a week or two. Prioritize upgrades before hurricane season and act quickly on moisture-related problems, especially in older homes, to prevent further damage.

Helpful?

In Conway, longevity depends on using copper wiring, corrosion-resistant components, and proper sealing against humidity. Outdoor electrical work should use weather-rated materials and secure installations for storm protection. Regular GFCI testing and annual inspections are essential. Following state codes, ensuring proper grounding, and planning upgrades before hurricane season all help electrical systems last and perform safely.

Helpful?

In Conway, electrical work is needed if you notice dimming lights, non-working outlets, frequent breaker trips, burning smells, or sparks. If issues occur only with certain appliances or after storms, both electrical and other repairs may be required. Persistent or multiple problems—especially after weather events—should be assessed by a professional to pinpoint the true cause.

Helpful?

For Conway’s humid climate, choose THWN-2 copper wire for moisture resistance, UF-B cable for outdoor use, and ROMEX NM-B for indoor wiring. Use NEMA 3R rated panels, weatherproof covers, and corrosion-resistant conduit outdoors. Marine-grade wire nuts are ideal for high humidity. These materials, available at local suppliers, help ensure safety and durability in SC’s coastal environment.

Helpful?

For minor electrical fixes in Conway, always turn off the breaker, test wires with a voltage tester, and use insulated tools. Only replace switches, outlets, or fixtures if you’re comfortable and conditions are dry. Test GFCI outlets monthly due to humidity. If you encounter issues with the main panel, wet areas, or aluminum wiring, stop and contact a local professional for safety.
