"JEM Electric is fantastic and knowledgeable. He added to my electrical panel and hooked up my EV charger in my garage with a new outlet. He also worked on my hot water system. I would highly recommend."

"I submitted a work request through Home Advisor and they called within a few minutes afterwards. They were able to come out the next day and provide an estimate for the work. Their estimate was very reasonable (compared to another estimate that we had gotten from another company) and they were able to complete the work that same day, which fit our schedule perfectly. The electrician was very professional, completed the work quickly and cleaned up well afterwards. I will definitely keep them in mind for future electrical needs."

"Mr pinto came out and repaired our AC within 2 hours of calling him. He is reliable and quick and trustworthy. We were not home when he came everything was completed and fixed by the time we got home and our home was cooling off very quickly. I would recommend him for any one who is looking for a job well done. I will continue using him in the future. Hard to find someone these days to give you a reasonable price and show up for the job and get it done quickly! Especially in these hot summer months to come call Mr Pinto if you want a job well done. Thanks again Sal Pinto"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Yes, tamper-resistant outlets are designed to be safe for use in homes with children. They feature a spring-loaded shutter that blocks the electrical slots when not in use, which helps protect children from electric shock if they try to insert an object. While they are the safest option available and highly effective, it's important to note that few things are truly 'childproof.' Children may still try to imitate adults by inserting a plug. For this reason, it's best to use tamper-resistant outlets over less effective solutions like plastic covers, which can be removed or pose a choking hazard. Always supervise young children around any electrical outlets or devices.

Local building codes typically require conduit around exterior wiring. Conduit protects the wire from moisture, extreme temperatures, sun exposure, and harsh weather conditions to prolong its lifespan. When a wire is worn out, it can be dangerous as the risk of electric shock or fire increases.

Automatic gates don’t use too much electricity, and you should see a minimal effect on your utility bill. In fact, certain gate systems are entirely self-sufficient and rely on solar panels attached to or near the gate to power the motor. While a gate is large and there is a powerful motor moving it, it’s not something that sees constant use throughout the day. For most automatic gates, expect to see a utility bill increase of only around $10 per month.

The number of outlets and lights you can safely run on a single circuit depends on the circuit's amperage and local electrical codes. A general rule is to allow one outlet or light fixture per 1.5 amps, keeping the total load under 80% of the circuit breaker's capacity. For example, a 15-amp circuit can typically support up to eight outlets or lights, while a 20-amp circuit can accommodate up to ten. Always consider the combined power usage of all connected devices and fixtures to prevent overloading. For specific guidelines and to ensure safety, it is best to consult local electrical codes or a licensed electrician.

First, check the current electrical code in your area to ensure spaces you’re considering meet the requirements. After that, your outlet’s location is up to you. If you’re moving it to hide wiring, you may want to move it in a spot that will also be hidden from view, such as behind a media center or table. As long as you meet the spacing guidelines set by electrical codes, you should be able to pick any spot in your home for an outlet.
