"A Cut Above many other Contractors! We had needed brick pointing done on our home for a few years. We are also in the middle of a renovation project for our game room and that included the installation of a sliding glass door where a window was. The door install required that a steel lintel be moved up to accommodate the height of the new door. We were very fortunate that we called Michener Chimney and Masonry to come and have a look. They came out in a timely fashion and gave their estimate to us in just a few days. Once we agreed to get the work done, Jim and his team from Michener began the work quickly. They were professional and friendly and did a wonderful job on all of the aspects of the project. Communication with them was easy, clear and accurate. We would highly recommend anyone needing brick or masonry work to use Michener Chimney and Masonry. Thank you Jim for doing such an amazing job and keeping our renovation project on-time and with your quality craftsmanship!"

At Baptiste Masonry we take great pride in every job we do like it was our own home. With 25 years experience I have seen a lot of beautiful work done by others and I have also seen a lot of not so good work. My goal for my customers is for them to be 100% satisfied and have a smile on their face when the work is complete. The job is not complete until that happens. In my years in the trade I have been fortunate enough to learn not just how to lay brick on a wall I have been part of some really great projects and really great people which I have learned a great deal and would love the opportunity to show my customers the great job I can do for them.

"I recommend Clarke and his masonry business without reservations. His crew led by Josh could not have done a better job repointing our (old) all brick house in Bellevue. This was a big job that took ~7 weeks to complete. The cost - given the size of the job - was reasonable and fair, and Clarke was very flexible with scheduling the work; he kept me up to date on the status of the project before the work started and during the job itself with at least weekly calls. I knew at all times where we stood. I would hire Clarke / Phillips Masonry for any other job involving brick work and anything else they do without any doubt."

"I feel extremely lucky that I found Shane Moran Masonry via Facebook. I based my decision to reach out to him on the reviews that others had left, so I feel it important to return the favor. Shane's communications were prompt and friendly and he came out to my property to assess the work within a very reasonable time frame. That's hard to come by in this climate. I asked him to remove an existing window and replace it with a sizable door on the exterior of my stone house. When I tell you that it looks like the door was always there- I can't stress enough how great the work is! The job was done on schedule and I truly couldn't be happier. I have already referred him to a few friends looking for work. And now I'm referring him to you! Call Shane Moran today!"

Small jobs welcome

"Duane called within 24 hours of my initial contact and showed up to look at my wall that day. He was upfront and honest in his appraisal. He removed a 50 foot long, 4 1/2 ft tall retaining wall that is 100 years old and had started to lean and fail. He completely removed the wall over a period of several days. He cleaned up the remnants every day and kept the sidewalk clear throughout the job. At the same time he retained my existing stone steps and repaired and reset the existing stone parapets abutting the steps. Duane did a beautiful job and I will use him in the future. He has an admirable work ethic and is refreshingly reliable."

"Frank and his crew went above and beyond. He was not on time because of all the rain we have been getting but every time I called he got back to me and kept us up to date on the schedule. When he got here to fence was up in 2 days. What I was so impressed by his respect and understanding that we have dogs and want them to be safe, plus when my Mom stops by she brings her pug. With a smaller dog you have to look for gaps and small holes. There were some larger gaps and he found a way to block them with left over pieces of the fence and it looks nice not hacked up. The smaller holes were blocked with large rocks in a creative way. They did a great job !!!"

"The representative came out for an estimate. He made suggestions appropriate for the project and offered options. His honest assessment of the conditions and possible remedies was appreciated.
The workmen arrived on time. They were courteous and professional. They worked steadily and finished the entire job as initially agreed. They performed quality work.
All of our contacts with office staff were equally professional, courteous, and timely.
We would definitely recommend Advanced Basement Solutions because of the reasonable cost, workmanship, timeliness and the quality or their work."

Customers say: Super punctual

"Rick returned my request from Angi the same day, and was out to see the property within a few days. He gave me a great proposal and very reasonable estimate and had a crew out to do the work about a week later. They worked for about 1.5 days, and we were amazed how fast they had the work completed. Everything was done with quality and attention to detail, and they saved me money by providing some extra stones that they had from a previous job. I am really impressed and would definitely work with them again and recommend them."

Masonry questions, answered by experts

While painting can certainly change the look of a chimney, you should think twice about giving your brick chimney the old landlord special.

Painting brick is porous, meaning it’s full of tiny holes that can soak up moisture. Those holes also allow it to dry, though. So, when you paint it, you trap any moisture inside, providing an opportunity for mold, mildew, and water damage.

Paint also shows wear faster than naked brick. This means that once you paint a brick surface, you’ll have to keep painting it to maintain a clean look. A paint job is also harder to undo on brick because of its porous nature. Once you paint it, it’s hard to go back without some serious power washing—another added cost.

Fireclay is a type of clay but it is a type of clay that, because of its chemical composition, can be fired at a much higher temperature than other clays. This results in a denser and more heat-resistant final material. Because of the high percentage of a mineral called kaolin, fireclay sinks are smoother and more durable than other clay types.

Modern brick houses are really stick-built homes with a brick facade for aesthetic purposes only, so most have framing. With genuine brick construction, most homeowners install furring strips over the interior of the brick and then install drywall over those strips to cover the brick wall, so they don’t have traditional framing.

The difference between river rock and landscaping rocks is size, smoothness, and use. River rocks are smooth and flat, as if polished by water, and come in diameters between 1 and 8 inches. Landscape rock can vary in size from small pea gravel installations to car-sized boulders. However, landscaping and river rocks are interchangeable in many situations. River rock is best for pathways, walkways, garden bed mulch, water features, and planting accents, while small landscape rocks can serve as a walkway base, gravel playground areas, and filler between pavers.

Painted exterior brick does not usually need sealing. Brick is a porous material, so you don’t want to apply a sealant that could trap moisture inside the bricks and cause erosion and structural damage. The risk of moisture-induced damage after sealing is higher in colder climates where trapped moisture can expand if it freezes. On the other hand, it makes sense to seal really old brick or kitchen backsplashes, where moisture from cooking can weaken the brick.
