George Anguiano was friendly and communicative during the project, and even promised to come back for a follow-up walkthrough and to seal the concrete or suggest how it should be done if we wanted to do it ourselves to save money, which we appreciated. Unfortunately, after the job was done, he never followed through. Despite multiple calls, texts, and emails over the course of several weeks (even months), we never heard back. The lack of communication and follow-up is really disappointing, especially since we were told those final steps would be part of the service. I would recommend George work if he actually followed up and stood by his word. Ignoring customers after a job is unprofessional and leaves a bad impression, even when the initial work is solid. These appliances do unscrew, but you need to disconnect everything properly when you replace your garbage disposal. Make sure you shut the power off to the area first and check that it’s off with a voltage detector. Disconnect the main drain line and P-trap, and then disconnect the dishwasher drain line if you have one connected. You can then unscrew your garbage disposal using a disposal wrench. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.

Generally speaking, it’s absolutely worth it to repair a garbage disposal, so long as it’s eight years old or younger. Once you pass that eight-year threshold, it depends on the issue. If it’s a simple jam and the core components remain unaffected, call a local plumber for a quick repair. If it seems like the motor is wearing down, spring for a replacement unit. 

You can pour boiling water down the garbage disposal only when cleaning it. Use hot water to flush baking soda and vinegar down the drain for a quick clean-up. For running food down the disposal, always use cold water.
