"Referred to us by Cabinet Cures, Taylor at Innovative Painting Pros, visited our home to see what the job would entail. Taylor gave us approximate bids based on hourly rates and felt they job would take les time than he estimated. We hired Innovative to paint the inside of the cabinets. Steve came out and did a very good job. The next job was performed by Theo. He was charged to paint the kitchen walls without over painted on our new re-faced cabinets. Theo came in and got right to painting. No taping off where the ceiling and walls met, or around the cabinets. I call it free hand painting. I had never seen anything like this when painting around other materials such as wood cabinets. Theo was so steady in painting straight lines that when he was finished the end result was better than had another painter come in, tapped off the area, then pulled the tape off to reveal paint seeping behind the tape. I was amazed. Taylor and his painters rate a 5."

"Portland Construction did a fantastic job. You would never know there had been a 14" X 22" hole in my ceiling drywall. I will definitely use them again. I was very worried about matching the texture of the ceiling, but as you can see by the before and after pictures, it is a perfect match."

"They did a nice a job but I felt like they were overpriced. They added some decking to make a privacy wall. They installed wood slats with lattice across the top. They also installed decorative fencing along the sides of the house. I felt this was a bait and switch deal as they charged $60/hr per worker. The quality of the work was nice, however."

"The work was great and the bid for the work was competitive. We are happy with the outcome of the ceiling work done to match the existing ceiling knock down. I would recommend this company for your sheetrock work."

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

The easiest way to remove texture from walls is the soak-and-scrape method. You’ll need to spray a section of the wall with water and let the water soak in and soften the texture. Then, you need to scrape the texture off using a drywall taping knife. This method works best with unpainted walls since paint prevents water from saturating the textured joint compound.

It depends on the type of texture you’re adding but yes, you can often use a roller to texturize a ceiling. The roller needs to be able to hold enough medium to create some relief on the ceiling but not so much that gravity will pull it off before it dries. Using a roller with a nap between ½” and ¾” will allow the roller to hold enough material to do the trick.

On average, repairing a ceiling costs anywhere from $450 to $1,750. However, there are many variables that can impact the price of this project. For example, the type of ceiling material, type and extent of the damage, and local labor rates all affect your costs. Holes and cracks are less expensive to fix, while structural issues and water damage are pricier problems.

Knockdown hides imperfections better than orange peel due to its thicker, more varied pattern. The valleys and peaks make flaws less visible under lighting. However, note that knockdown walls will collect more dust and dirt, so be prepared to wipe them away more frequently than you would with orange peel.

As stylish new design options become more popular, modern drop ceiling designs also include metal tiles of tin and copper, which can create a dark, moody atmosphere in your basement bar, home theater, or game room. There are also a variety of modern lighting ideas for drop ceilings, including recessed and surface mount lights.
