"The work went very well. Erik came recommended to me by a neighbor. Erik's bid was very competitive, and with the recommendation, I'm glad we chose to go with him. I went with Erik's advice on the roofing tiles. For much of the project, we relied on email/text/phone, and Erik was easy to work with. Erik and his crew worked very diligently, and the timing was great -- got the job done before the autumn storm season started. Definitely put my mind at ease as the old roof was pretty beat up. I recommend Erik highly."

"I'm in the process of a divorce and selling my home. It turned out the roof had to be replaced in order for homeowners insurance to provide coverage. I was not in a position to pay for this out of pocket. This company was willing to work with me to get the work done, even allowing me to make the deposit in payments and went out of their way to get it done quickly. When they started the work, they discovered a lot of the plywood sheets were rotten and there was no framing support around one corner of the roof. They had to reframe the whole section. The owner himself is a very kind man and is teaching his son the business so I got to meet him as well. I had estimates from two other companies that were several thousand dollars more than what the total cost ended up being with Romvil A1 Roofing & Remodeling LLC. I will forever be grateful to Eric, Maggie and the whole team for helping me out. I know who I will call if I need this kind of work in the future."

"Cobex offered great value for my money. Their price was around the same as other quotes, but they used better materials. In addition, Vaz patiently answered all my questions and gave me prons and cons of the different upgrade options. We ended up also using Cobex for attic insulation and gutter guards. The true sign of professionalism is how a company reacts when issues come up. We had a couple of minor issues from the construction that Cobex addressed quickly. I also like how they handle everything electronically. No more printing, singing, scanning, and emailing documents back. We've had lots of compliments on our roof. We would totally use them again."

"They were great! I had a leak in my roof and they came out and tarped it up before the new roof was installed. I will hire them for my next house when it needs roof."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Hail is unlikely to damage a tar and gravel roof because the hailstones will hit the protective gravel rather than your delicate roof membrane. A tar and gravel roof is the most resilient flat roof option, which means it’s the best one for areas that see hail, fallen tree debris, and blown debris from intense winds.

The best type of roof vent depends on the size, type, and construction of your roof as well as the environmental conditions in and around your home. In many cases, an active ventilation system that draws in fresh air and exhausts air out through the attic is the most effective. Active ventilation systems include roof ridge vents with baffles, turbine vents, and soffit vents that are used together with another type of vent.

The roof pitch on a Cape Cod house is normally 8/12 or 10/12, meaning the roof rises 8 to 10 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal run. This is steeper than the now-standard 6/12 pitch, as Cape Cod homes were originally popular in northern states, where the steeper pitch helped snowfall slide readily off the roof.

The most common roof pitch is 4:12, which means a rise of 4 inches for every 12 inches of horizontal run. However, roof pitch varies widely based on roof design, climate, and even the roofing materials you plan to install. Your building type also plays a role, as flat roofs are common on commercial buildings and some modern homes.

Most Cape Cod houses are two stories tall at the peak, although they’re considered one-and-a-half stories tall because the steep roof pitch cuts off a portion of the living space on the second story. Unless you raise the roof on your Cape Cod house to add a dormer, the interior rooms upstairs will lose some usable living space to the sloped ceilings.
