Aylwin ConstructionAWESOME. As a Realtor I will and already have recommmended this roofing company. I am a super pleased customer. The crew installing the roof was professional, courteous, clean and worked super hard to get the roof done quickly. A very positive experience. I got several quotes and chose Aylwin Construction based on a very competitive quotation and, again, am a super happy customer. Todd.- Todd Z.

Aylwin ConstructionThey did an excellent job, and at a very good price. Work site was cleaned up daily, the quality of the work was excellent, and the foreman kept us informed as they proceeded and found the porch support problem (rot damage to a post, and cracks leading to failure in a beam).- Michelle P.

J & B Hardwood Floor IncJim and Rindy were great to work with. Communication was timely and the work was done on time with no issues. I would recommend them to anyone.- Jeff J.

Decco Design LLCWhen our rowhouse discovered we had long standing dry rot issues under our porches we contacted a number of contractors to submit proposals. Decco had the best price of the contractors that understood the scope of the work. Unfortunately the damage was much more extensive once the project was begun and the porches were opened up. While this was not good news Nik and Demetrie made sure we were kept involved every step of the way, showing us what they found and how the problems could be addressed. Throughout the project they did a great job controlling costs but making sure we would be 100% structurally sound. Because of the hidden damage the project took longer than planned but they did an unbelievable job of working with individual households to accommodate a variety of schedules and concerns. Based on the way they handled this very challenging project I would absolutely hire Nik and Demetire again and highly recommend them to others.- David S.

Deck Masters, LLCDeck Masters did an awesome job! Our new deck looks beautiful. Our yard is on a massive slope so its not the easiest to work with. They ripped out our old rotted deck and non-functional hot tub, replaced with a new layout of Trex decking, complete with cedar privacy screen & gate and railed stairs up from the front driveway. We ran in into one minor issue when we realized our retaining wall didn't go down has far as I had thought (they were dropping the deck to make it all one height rather than the multiple stair-step levels it had been previously). Kyle immediately came and talked with me about my options (from minor adjustments at no extra cost, to changing the build and the approx money that would entail). He discussed the pros and cons of each option, and offered his opinion when I asked for it. Throughout the whole project, their communication was great, and they were always very professional. They kept the job sit clean and organized at the end of each day. I would definitely hire them again (and in fact plan on having them replace our upper deck when we are ready to dive into that project).- Rebekah H.

Lo's Contracting, Inc.Working with Amadou and Marlon was so smooth and easy. They were both very professional and easy to work with and I enjoyed meeting them and feel very fortunate that I found them! Lo's helped me convert what used to be a garage/carport in to a walled-in workshop. They turned the job around super quickly and did excellent work, they were able to work with me even though I had a small budget, and they even came back to fix a punchlist thing which I really appreciated. I would 100% recommend them and hire them again.- Sasha B.

Recent Review:
We just wrapped up our first major remodel — updating a hastily-converted bedroom-turned-bathroom. Alex Freddi and his team did a wonderful job. Our project manager, Alex, made great recommendations for placements of things, and was able to roll with the punches when a pipe placement caused an issue and a new wall needed to be built for the shower. We also appreciated that when we were sometimes at a loss when questions came up, he was able to understand and advise when necessary. Our tiler (also named Alex - a third Alex) was amazing and made it work when it looked like we might be short on shower tile. When we noticed that a requested outlet had been forgotten (right at the end of the whole project), they instantly fixed the situation and had a great attitude throughout the whole thing. We appreciated everyone's help who worked on various projects — all of them did a great job (including the plumber who was a little confused by our weird Japanese toilet, but got it working perfectly!). This all took place during January-February, so all of us (three adults) had to work from home throughout the whole project, and Alex's team was incredibly accommodating, safe, and gracious. We have a lot of noisy pets, our house is very old and full of fun surprises (and incredibly hard to navigate while holding construction material), and Alex & co. were nothing but understanding. We are so happy with our new bathroom. We can't wait for lockdown to end so we can have a party to show it off. ;) We would definitely use Alex and his team for future projects.

Ability Plus is a great company. They provided a fair estimate and stuck to it. The crew was very respectful of our property and time and did a great job. We had a chance to meet one of the owners, an estimator, the operations manager, and had several calls from office manager to ensure we were informed and happy. And this was just a normal residential roof. They really made us feel well taken care of and we would definitely hire them again. Excellent service and great value for the price.

Recent Review:
Paul’s crew did an excellent job remodeling our kitchen. This included removing the soffit, upgrading the electrical service, installing new cabinets, and installing some new appliances. We stayed with a similar layout for the kitchen. His main crew person, Mark, did 95 percent of the work and was highly skilled. This included demolition, preparing the space for the new kitchen, installing the cabinets, and putting in duct work for the new hood. He even unpacked all the cabinets after delivery. His attention to detail was impressive in all areas like ceiling texture, painting, backsplash tile, and trim/molding pieces. Mark will be able to figure out and resolve any issue your old house might present. New appliances were on our own to provide, and the contract clearly stated “owner supplied.” New cabinets were also on our own, and here Paul included an allowance. This allowance is an amount he will subtract from the final amount you owe. That’s nice when you get to the end of the project. Your cabinet estimate will come from the cabinet supplier/design company you go with. To give you an idea, in our small kitchen we spent $10,000 on cabinets from Parr. Paul coordinated the main construction, electricians, plumbers, and countertop installation. He even communicated with the cabinet supplier we ordered from. The project took a tad over 6 weeks which was about right for the work involved. Each day there was noticeable progress.

Excellent! They are so professional, and took care to plan around rainy weather working efficiently under the eaves to keep things moving fast so our 1,800 sq ft home was done within a week despite frequent rains. The house looks fantastic because they scrapped, taped and prepped so well - carefully hand scrapped when needed instead of power washing. No over spray on concrete, windows or doors and no missing paint - they are very careful to do a good job. They even had a brick facade to work around in front, and caught many little details I noticed later. When issues were found, they always checked with me and helped me make informed decisions. The job was done late October so we were worried about the wet weather, but Billy (William, the owner) reassured us it would work out, and it did. They even finished on a Saturday am to work with the weather...amazing. The paint has held up very well against the rains and winds this winter. Plus the owner is there working and helping his crew the whole time, very good at making sure everything is done right, nothing is missed (high quality), and work keeps going, At the same time, Billy and his crew have a lot of fun together. They enjoy listening to music and making jokes. I was there the whole time, and the crew was a real pleasure to have working around the house. We highly recommend them! By the way, the eye popping green color was our choice, not theirs, and we love it every day.

They did an excellent job, we were very satisfied with the construction and the whole process. Price was competitive, every change order was explained well and we get the chance to know what the changes were and why it is needed. Highly recommend them to anyone. It is very challenging to build a house along the coast, he did it very well and he was able to build a costumed home with the challenges on the terrain, geo-technical requirement on the lot.

When we bought our house in SE Division area back in 2001 we knew we loved the view and thought the neighborhood would improve. Fast forward 20 years and we reached a point in life where we could afford to turn our place into what we always knew it could be. Hamish Murray was extremely flexible when it came to the bidding process and the various hoops we had to jump through to for the bank to finance our construction loan (check out Clackamas County Bank.) With Hamish Murray the price they quoted you is the price you’re going to pay. While we made them suffer through countless change orders as we added mid-project upgrades, never did I hear that something was going to cost more than was originally quoted. I grew up working on wooden boats and old houses on the east coast, so often when I look at modern construction it doesn’t feel like it has the same craftsman attention to detail as you’d see in early 20th century work. That’s not the case with Hamish Murray. The subs they used cared deeply about their craft and you can tell in every corner. If something looked at all sloppy, it was redone without question or cost to me. Concrete was re-poured, cabinets were repainted - the level of quality assurance was what you’d expect out of a builder making their own home. Every morning as I have my coffee I feel like I’m on vacation in a fancy boutique hotel, but its my kitchen! Every night as tuck in the kids and lock up, I feel like I’m already in a dream. Hamish Murray made it happen, and we’re deeply thankful.

I really liked that they sent someone out after the pressure washing to test different stains to help me choose. This was really great. I also really liked to option to pay over 6 months. My bill was nearly $5000 so that helped. The workers were very nice. I had an overall good experience. One thing though was that after the pressure washing and sanding I pointed out a few times that when the deck was wet there were several places where it looked as if it needed further sanding because it was discolored. But they assured me that it would not cause a problem and they were wrong. Those discolored areas are there.

Recent Review:
We hired Randy to remodel our kitchen, including new cabinets, countertops, flooring, sink and dishwasher. We had a certain budget we were trying to hit and Randy was very helpful in thinking through our options and potential tradeoffs. He was also flexible in working with us on project scoping to incorporate some DIY elements to accommodate our budget (some of the other contractors I spoke with were very reticent to do this). In addition to being a helpful advisor on how to approach the project, the quality and timeliness of Randy's work was excellent. He was so well organized, provided regular communication and updates on our timelines, and completed the work on time and on budget. He always communicated in advance about which subcontractors were coming in and when, and supervised their work to ensure it was done accurately and well. The whole project took about 6-weeks and Randy worked with us to accommodate our work schedules (I was working from home and Randy was always very good about letting me know when he was arriving and leaving, coordinating on times the power or water had to be shutoff, etc.). He was also very respectful of our home, taking extra care to keep the dust out of the rest of the house, cleaning up each day, and taking appropriate Covid precautions. If you're looking for a contractor who will deliver high quality work on time and on budget, treat you honestly and fairly, and is organized and a great communicator -- then Randy is your guy! I would highly recommend him to anyone looking to update their older home.
