"I worked with Jessica, Jacob, Paul and others from Critter Control over the course of a project to eradicate rats from our crawl space, clean up the damage they'd caused and seal up entry points around the house to prevent future infestations. Everyone I dealt with, both over the phone and in person, was pleasant and professional and eager to resolve the situation. All scheduled activities occurred on time as promised, and a couple of unavoidable weather-related postponements were handled adeptly and quickly rescheduled. Critter Control has a great customer-focused system that allows them to document their work on each visit with photographs as necessary, and email a report to the customer right from the driveway before they leave the work site. It makes for excellent accountability and makes the progress nicely visible to the customer. I appreciate all the hard work and the attention to detail."

"Great. Get smart way surpassed my previous pest control company’s knowledge base. He uses science based methods, not just outdated routines and chemicals which other companies employed to no avail."

"Simmons & Crowe is an extremely professional family owned, family run company.  Their scheduling and communication process is very organized, and they come when they say they will come, on time.  They went to great lengths to understand our problem, and all of its causes.  Three sides of our property front on wilderness areas, one of which is a large field.  When the field was mowed, the field mice came, in droves.  Even our two indoor only cats could not keep the problem completely in check.  Also, the forested area in the back of our property provided a whole separate population of mice.  I like to feed the birds and wildlife, a lot, and was unwilling to stop entirely to discourage mice -- I wanted a mouse-proofing solution.  Also, I did not approve the use of kill traps or poison.  Not only do I believe they are inhumane and unnecessary, I also believe they are deceptive in their success rate -- because they kill the immediate population, which makes it seem the mice are gone, but then new mice come and find the old holes and pathways into the house, and the problem begins again.  Knowing there will always be more mice, I wanted to leave the ones alive that knew the way in, as a litmus test to prove whether the holes and pathways they were using were properly plugged.  If they were still getting in, then another mouse could too, as soon as it found the path.  I bought live mice traps and my husband and the guys from S&C repeatedly emptied them to collect information about whether the same mice were finding ways in, or whether the intruders were always new mice.  (We marked mice with a little spray paint before releasing them from a iive trap to identify them when they returned inside...)
Ultimately, it became clear that the only permanent solution to our problem was the massive installation of galvanized mesh throughout the crawlspace under the house, that the mice can't chew or tear through.  The cost was $2200, but my research revealed that the galvanized mesh materials plus the man hours necessary more than justified that cost.  We worked with S&C on a payment arrangement, and they went to work.  They had several guys working under the house for several days, and when they finished, the mouse problem was completely resolved.  We still kept live traps out to catch the mice that were trapped inside the house walls during the install.  After we caught and released all stragglers, there has not been a single mouse since.  Not one. Three months have passed with no signs of entry, no snacks for cats, nothing.  We are ecstatic.  And no mice were killed in the mouse-proofing of our home.  I no longer have to feel guilty about feeding the birds in our yard!  Our home is demonstrably rodent proof. Simmons & Crowe accomplished the impossible!
As an aside, we really got to know the Simmons & Crowe family because they came to our house dozens of times to work on this problem over several months (Sept. 2014 through April 2015.)  These are good, decent, kind, smart and hard-working people. They treat you right, and would do the same even if you weren't an Angie's list member.  They have integrity, and deserve all the success they achieve in their business.

Small jobs welcome

"People respond immediately, answering my questions and concerns. Appointment was booked, showed up on time, very knowledgeable tech. All was taken care of post haste. Week or so later they had to return as birds had started to concentrate on chimney- that was promptly set up with deterrents and have not had birds pecking on the house since - thank you Pest Plus."

"At first, I thought Juan did a great job. My lawn started to look better than ever, my weeds were finally under control. But over time, service lacked. Weeds starting popping up here and there and Juan did not pull them up. I have 2 old tree stumps in my flower beds that grow fungus during the spring and those growths are still there. I expect things like that to be removed. I have a very small yard so these things are very easy to see. I've had to ask him a couple times to be more thorough and his attitude has not been kind towards it. Yes, his price is lower than anyone else I've spoken to, but apparently there's a reason for it."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

DIY treatments may help minor issues, but professionals provide long-term solutions and prevent recurrence.

Yes, in some cases if your damper is left open, animals can come down your chimney. In these instances, it’s more likely that they have fallen in while looking for a safe spot rather than entered your house intentionally. Leaving your damper closed or installing a chimney cap can prevent animals from coming inside.

Regular cleaning, proper food storage, sealing entry points, and professional inspections help prevent infestations.

When woodpeckers start banging on your walls or roof, they are probably looking for insects to eat, storing nuts for winter, drilling a hole to make a nest, or communicating with other birds to establish territory or find a mate.

The size of the hole can help determine the reason for the pecking. Small irregular holes are a result of insect hunts. Acorn holes are more consistently sized and often fitted with a nut in the middle. Nest holes are large and have rounded edges. If the bird is pecking to mark its territory or attract a mate, it may leave dents rather than holes, and the noise will stop when the mating season starts in spring.

Pest control timelines depend on what services are being provided, size and type of infestation, and size of your home. Some inspections can take an hour or more, while preventative treatments only take 30 minutes to complete. Basic spaying for a problem like roaches or termites can take about an hour for small homes, but much longer for large properties and infestations. Consult your pest control pro for a time estimate based on your situation.
