"Jeff came out the next day and took care of our bird problem. He explained what he could do and the cost range. When completed, he showed me pictures, told me what he did and explained the next phrase if necessary. I would use him again and will recommend him to my neighbors."

"Back in late March, I was hearing noises in my attic, which I could not determine what was making them. After I heard gnawing above my kitchen ceiling in April, I called a pest control company (NOT Critter Control). They sent a technician to my house who looked in the attic and proclaimed it was rodents (rats/mice). That sounded reasonable enough, as rats and mice do gnaw. This company put out bait stations, one in the attic and one outdoors.
However, on Saturday April 10, I spotted a squirrel climb from my roof, into a soffit vent above my side door, and disappear. After that, I heard noises in the attic again. So, thinking I was being helpful, I contacted the pest control company and told them I had seen a squirrel enter the attic. They offered to put up screening on my soffit vent, so the same technician came out to do this on Thursday. After doing this, he seemed irritated with me. I don't know if he sincerely believed it was still rats or mice, and just didn't like having to put up screening, but it was off putting to say the least. He said he had provided all these options, but the only options I was offered by him or his employer were to put up screening, or continue monitoring the bait stations (which does nothing about squirrels in the attic). Huh? I had no evidence of rats or mice in the house, but direct evidence of squirrels (seeing one seems pretty direct to me.) I will admit my college biology is a bit rusty, but I am pretty sure I can tell the difference between a squirrel and a rat.
After witnessing the desperate mother squirrel try to get back in the attic, I then contacted Critter Control, by this point practically hysterical. They sent out a technician (Wally) who listened to what I had to say, including my concerns and my account of my less than stellar experience with the other company. Wally confirmed that I did indeed have squirrels, including removing one that unfortunately had passed away, and saying NOTHING about rats or mice. Then he proceeded to put up an exclusion door, so any squirrels in the attic could get out, but those outside could not get back in. After about a week, he put a trap in the attic if there were any squirrels left who wouldn't leave. There were not, it turned out. So after the exclusion door had been on about a week and a half, he put screening back on the soffit vent. I have not seen or heard any squirrel activity since, so I am a very happy customer. If you suspect in the least you could be dealing with something other than rats/mice, save yourself some time and anguish, and call Critter Control. I would probably also recommend them for rats/mice, but I don't have the direct experience.

"Great. Get smart way surpassed my previous pest control company’s knowledge base. He uses science based methods, not just outdated routines and chemicals which other companies employed to no avail."

"At first, I thought Juan did a great job. My lawn started to look better than ever, my weeds were finally under control. But over time, service lacked. Weeds starting popping up here and there and Juan did not pull them up. I have 2 old tree stumps in my flower beds that grow fungus during the spring and those growths are still there. I expect things like that to be removed. I have a very small yard so these things are very easy to see. I've had to ask him a couple times to be more thorough and his attitude has not been kind towards it. Yes, his price is lower than anyone else I've spoken to, but apparently there's a reason for it."

Bird Control questions, answered by experts

Yes, bats can cause quite a bit of damage to the attic. Their weight and movement from flying around can damage insulation, and they can chew through wiring and the walls. As if this isn’t enough, they leave their droppings throughout, which carry harmful bacteria and is dangerous for humans to breathe in, not to mention the extremely foul-smelling odor.

Finding a dead bat in your home can be frightening, even during spooky season. The United States Department of Interior states that if you find a dead bat, take these steps:

  • Contact your state wildlife agency to report the finding

  • Photograph the bat safely to help the wildlife agency determine the species

  • Use disposable gloves to place the bat into a plastic bag, making sure to spray with disinfectant and close the bag securely

  • Thoroughly clean your hands and any clothing that came into contact with the bat

If you see one dead bat, you might have a large bat infestation that needs to be treated immediately. Call a local pest control company to properly inspect your home for other bats.

When woodpeckers start banging on your walls or roof, they are probably looking for insects to eat, storing nuts for winter, drilling a hole to make a nest, or communicating with other birds to establish territory or find a mate.

The size of the hole can help determine the reason for the pecking. Small irregular holes are a result of insect hunts. Acorn holes are more consistently sized and often fitted with a nut in the middle. Nest holes are large and have rounded edges. If the bird is pecking to mark its territory or attract a mate, it may leave dents rather than holes, and the noise will stop when the mating season starts in spring.

Studies indicate that owls don't possess a conventional sense of fear. However, they find intense, sudden human noise unsettling, like clapping or shouting. Additionally, owls are likely spooked by sudden bursts of bright light. While they may not experience fear as humans do, these disturbances can disrupt their natural behaviors, making it essential to minimize such disruptions when sharing spaces with these remarkable creatures.

Look for goose repellents that contain the ingredient methyl anthranilate. This is a natural chemical found in grape juice. In human food, it’s often used as grape flavoring. With geese, it’s highly irritating. Grape Kool-Aid contains methyl anthranilate, the active ingredient in most bird repellents. It won’t harm geese, but it will deter them.
