"I called Alpha Environmental Services on 5/14 to schedule an inspection of my attic for mold. After paying $150 inspection fee, the appointment was made for 5/17. I received an appointment reminder e-mail on 5/16 asking for confirmation that appointment will be kept. Chris arrived on-time on 5/17 and performed the inspection which took about 30-45 minutes. Later that day, Chris forwarded me an e-mail with pictures of attic problem area and bid describing the work to be performed. Chris identified the source of the problem which another mold remediation contractor failed to identify the previous day during that contractor's inspection. I approved the bid and work was scheduled for the following week. A technician arrived on time and completed the repair and remediation within 2 hours. The technician performing the work was friendly, answered all questions posed to him, and cleaned up the work area. I received the final invoice with a post action report detailing what remediation was performed, including pictures of the treated areas via e-mail including Alpha's statement of guarantee the following day. Overall the process was super smooth, very professional and most importantly hassle free. I will be hiring Alpha Environmental Services for all my future mold remediation needs."

"We had a leak in our tub that caused significant damage to everything around it. Kevin came out and did a thorough inspection, walked us through what the process was going to look like, and started demo a couple days later. Chris and Garrett primarily worked on our project and had great attitudes, always friendly, and communicated every step of the way. Our bathroom is now put back together and looks great."

"I researched mold inspection companies and read excellent reviews on Craig Cooper the local Mold Inspection Sciences inspector. I met Craig I told him he had a great reputation and I expected him to live up to it. He did and far more. Craig's pre-remediation inspection identified the type of mold. But Craig went beyond that. He is a great teacher and he educated me on the probable cause of the mold, various methods of mold removal, and provided the information I needed to select a remediation company. Brad of the MIS staff was also extremely helpful. I selected a firm that used a remediation method that Craig and Brad had recommended. The work was completed in a timely manner and passed with flying colors."

Biohazard Remediation questions, answered by experts

It’s unlikely your leaves are a hazard, especially if you get to them while they’re dry. However, a couple of rare risks exist. University studies suggest that decaying leaves can produce organochlorines, toxic pollutants similar to man-made PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), so avoid keeping them in an enclosed area.

Also, leaves and compost may cause the growth of fungi that can cause diseases like histoplasmosis and aspergillosis, as well as mold spores that are unhealthy for human lungs. Again, severe issues are rare, but those with compromised immune systems or allergies to mold should wear face masks when directly handling leaves.

If you find black residue in your toilet tank, chances are it’s caused by manganese deposits from hard water and not mold growth. You can prevent these deposits from damaging your toilet by installing a water softener in your home, which also might improve the quality of your drinking water. You can also remove the deposits inside your toilet tank once every six months or so to prevent them from causing problems with toilet functionality.

Mold can be hazardous to your health. Some people are allergic to mold and experience a reaction when exposed to mold spores. The reaction varies from person-to-person, but can include a runny nose, skin irritation, and asthma attack. Mold can also be irritating to people who aren't allergic, causing respiratory, skin, and eye irritation. In some cases, mold exposure can lead to infections.

Many caulk alternatives are safe for use in kitchens and food preparation areas, provided you apply them correctly and let them cure for the right amount of time. If you’re unsure about this step, call in a pro to do it for you. Silicone putty and caulk strips are often used around sinks and countertops due to their waterproof and flexible nature. Always choose products labeled as safe for kitchen use and follow the manufacturer's instructions for proper application and curing.

Yes, mold behind drywall can affect your health, even if it is not visible. Mold releases spores and mycotoxins into the air that can be inhaled, leading to various health issues including respiratory problems, allergies, asthma symptoms, coughs, and other infections. While individuals with pre-existing conditions like allergies, asthma, or weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable, anyone can be affected by prolonged exposure. Additionally, if left untreated, mold can spread throughout your home and compromise its structural integrity, resulting in costly repairs.
