Balanced Energy Solutions
About us
Balanced Energy Solutions is a small, Portland based consulting and weatherization company owned and operated by Amy & Gregg Robinson. Gregg started Balanced Energy Solutions to create awareness and educate individuals about how the occupants, the materials used to build/improve the home, and the natural environment effect the indoor air quality, comfort, durability and energy use in a dwelling. We currently have a staff of ten, and all weatherization work from test-in to test-out is performed by our small staff. Balanced Energy Solutions offers a variety of options to suit everyone’s immediate budget and long term goals. Oregon CCB# 184628

the furthest register. Draftiness was reduced so that it was more comfortable even when the thermostat was
set fairly low in the winter. In the Summer a refreshing cool blast from the air conditioner came through that register.
Removing old insulation cleaned the attic and made it easier for Gregg's team to seal. We felt good about
a clean attic. In addition to more comfortable temperatures, my allergy symptoms declined shortly after the job was done.
Greg's bid was competitive. His work was meticulous and professional. It works! He is great to work with!
"Hi [removed member name], Thank you for the nice review! We enjoyed working with you as well! Amy"
Aaron Lazelle was our project coordinator. He was present to direct the work and make sure things were completed to specifications expected. He was professional and when we decided to proceed with approximately half of the recommendations presented, he had no hesitations and there was no pressure to do more. The Balanced Energy Solutions team, carefully blew insulation in to both stories of our house, primarily from the outside. This entailed removing cedar shingles, drilling holes, blowing in the insulation material, caulking and replacing the shingles. Inside some holes were drilled in walls, more insulation blown in, holes replaced, patched and repainted. 2 crawl spaces were made more energy efficient and one of the doorways to crawl space was made larger to our specs. Also an existing hole was sealed to specs between basement and crawlspace. To top it off this company returned in better weather to caulk nail holes and touch up paint exterior so you would never know work was done.
Every person we dealt with, Amy in the office, Aaron the coordinator, the foreman, painter inside and outside, were all very professional and willing to make this job perfect! This company stands out to me as exceptional = and best of all we noticed a substantial reduction in our heating bill during the next cycle!
"Dear (deleted member name), Thank you so much for such a positive review. We truly enjoyed working with you as well and are delighted that you are happy with the work. We are also delighted that you have already seen a change in your energy usage! Thank you again, Amy"
I had already taken bids for getting the siding replaced from a few places and Gregg offered to bid it as well. His bid was a little higher than the other companies, but I liked the idea of only having to deal with one company instead of coordinating between a siding company and an insulation company. Gregg provided a detailed bid, itemizing each of the different areas for improvements and options that we had discussed, which made it much easier for me to decide what needed to get done.
I hired Gregg to do the siding tear off, rot repair on the side of the house and a small section of asphalt roofing, blowing in insulation in the areas that he had identified, installing new hardiplank siding on the entire house, and doing air sealing in the basement.
Gregg's team came out and did everything we had discussed. His siding and roofing team (Miguel and Arturo) did a great job in replacing the siding and repairing the small areas that had rot. They found a leak I didn't know about while replacing the siding near a flat section torchdown roof, so I had them replace the whole torchdown and some rot underneath it as well. The original tear off, insulation/weather sealing, and new siding insulation took about a week in all. The torchdown replacement was done about a month later and took 2 days. The house looks brand new on the outside now.
Balanced Energy Solutions is also a CEWO contractor, and as I was looking at replacing my furnace, Gregg was able to walk me through the various options available for energy efficiency upgrades in the CEWO program. I ultimately hired BES to replace my furnace with a heat pump and new thermostat through the CEWO program, as well as installing top mount dampers for my chimney, which had a broken damper that was allowing a lot of hot air out and cold air in.
As with any construction project, there were a few hiccups (insulation popping off the interior drywall for instance), but Gregg took care of all of them quickly and with no added cost to the bid. In the end, outside of small unforeseen costs like the rot repair in the torchdown roof, we paid the exact amount from the bid.
Gregg and Amy are very easy to work with, and their whole crew is awesome. My wife and I started joking once all of the work was done that we should start making new projects up just to keep them all coming around because we liked them so much. And the house is so much warmer now. I would definitely recommend BES to anyone looking for energy efficiency improvements to their home, and for siding and roofing replacement.
"Dear Member, Thank you so much for this review! We very much enjoyed working with you as well. You both were great to work with, and we're very excited that you are happy with the work. P.S. We'd love it if you came up with more projects so we can come back and see you!"
