"Excellent! Marty and his partner definitely know septic systems and how to evaluate their functioning level. We were very pleased and impressed with their knowledge, work ethic and the time they spent carefully checking every part of our system and explaining what they found to us. I will definitely use them again and tell neighbors as well. Several folks in my neighborhood tried going with the lowest bids on septic issues and all three had major repercussions! It pays to hire high quality people."

"Our existing septic tank was only a few years old, but the associated drainfield was failing and required replacement. Due to a small lot, our options were limited; but rather than a huge and unsightly bottomless sand filter, we opted for a less obtrusive (but expensive) treatment unit and pumps along with the needed replaced drainfield. Cory was very helpful in explaining complex options and costs."

"Rob (the owner/operator) was very professional and helpful. He checked for new contacts when he finished his previous job in our town and called us before he headed home, allowing him to squeeze us in on a Saturday afternoon - in a thunderstorm! He then spent time with me while we were paying him, helping me understand how I could likely effect a solution to our septic system problems myself, without us having to even have him come out to pump our tank out again! I don t know how you get better service than THAT!! AND, his price was reasonable too! All-in-all, Enuf to restore your faith in buy American!!! Couldn t be happier he did work for us."

"Mike fully explained the job, pricing and expected end result. He specifically researched the model of my hot water heater so that he could give me correct details.  I wish my project had started with this call to Mike, it would have saved me time, money and frustration. It WILL be my first call for any future plumbing needs."

Septic Tanks FAQs, answered by experts

Well water is often assumed to be hard because of its high mineral content. Hard water can lead to mineral build-up in your pipes and appliances. You can manage hard water by installing a whole-house filter system. These systems can help extend the life of your water-reliant appliances like your hot water tank and dishwasher.

Yes, shower water goes into the septic tank. Shower water is a type of greywater, and in fact, all water used in a home with a septic system—including water from sinks, toilets, the dishwasher, and the washing machine—drains into the tank. When shower water enters the tank, debris like soap and hair travels with it. The solid debris sinks to the bottom to become sludge, while soap residue joins the scum layer at the top. The remaining water is treated in the tank before moving to the drain field for further treatment and dispersal. It is important to avoid putting oil or harsh chemicals down any drain, as they can cause clogs or disrupt the beneficial bacteria required for proper wastewater management in the septic system.

We’ve explained how deep-rooted plants can damage a septic tank from the outside, but plenty of things can ruin it from the inside, too. For example, flushing bulky items (like paper towels, diapers, and wipes) can clog your septic tank. Cooking oil, grease, and household chemicals can also harm your system. And since a new septic system costs between $3,460 and $11,450, it’s worth following these guidelines.

The water refills in a well through gravity that draws water from the water table to fill the vertical hole. The pump brings the fresh water through a pressure tank and to the pipes in your house. The well continues to refill indefinitely as long as you don’t use more water than the well is producing.

There is no standard depth for burying a septic tank; they are typically buried anywhere from 4 inches to 4 feet underground. The final depth depends on several factors, including the depth of your main sewer line, the height of the bedrock, soil type, local regulations, and the property's landscape. If you plan to grow grass or plants over the tank, a depth of at least 4 to 6 inches is recommended. Deeper tanks can be more difficult to locate, but a septic professional can help find it for you.
