"We would highly recommend Superior Building Concepts for your next project. After many over priced quotes, underpriced quotes with a wink and a nod to do this small job without permit, or contractors that stopped by to provide a quote that we never heard from again we received a referral from Angie's list for Superior Building Construction.  Stan came by, gave us a reasonable quote then followed up with a very professional and complete contract.  We signed with Superior and were pleasantly surprised with the continued professionalism.  We received compete drawings with architectural choices.  After our selection, it was put through the permit process.  At each point we received proper communication from Stan. Once construction began, Stan was there managing the subcontractors and working alongside.  We were delighted with each subcontractor Stan brought on board.  They were all punctual, courteous and cleaned up everything after their respective jobs were complete. With Covid supply shortages you can imagine some of the issues that arose, but with each roadblock Stan communicated with us and we worked out satisfactory work arounds. This remodel was a pleasant experience and Stan and his team made the difference. You can be confident in your project if you select Superior Building Concepts."

"We had a good experience with Alex Freddi a few years ago for a bathroom remodel, so we hired him again for our recent kitchen remodel. Project manager Gary had every subcontractor scheduled perfectly, everyone did a wonderful job, the jobsite was kept clean and we are very happy with the results. We would definitely recommend this company."

My name is Ed Potter and I run Pro Serve. I'm a licensed and insured general contractor. I've been working in my trade since 2004, with a strong focus on providing safe, clean, organized, and low-dust job sites. As a professional carpenter, I understand that your home is your castle, and I treat it that way.\n\nI am also a hands-on, full-service contractor. No subcontractors, just me doing the work. I can do the entire project, from start to finish. I value clear communication and make sure you know what's going on at every step.\n\nMy prices are reasonable, and I offer free estimates. You also never have to worry about paying an up-front deposit. Regardless of the size of the project, payment is made only when you're 100% satisfied. I want to work with you on projects that fit your budget and your vision.

"Landon came out quickly to assess my water main leak. He was back out within hours of me deciding to go with Service Plus over the other bids, to bypass the leak. He worked with and around my schedule, getting the repair done as quickly and efficiently as possible. Saved me some money on unnecessary items the other companies said were needed (the city inspector agreed they were unnecessary). Landon's attention to detail was great, and the finished line and valve coming into the house looks very clean and professional. When he was done I couldn't even tell where they needed to dig outside. I expected a giant trench in my yard as I'm 75' from the street, but since they drilled horizontally, there was no evidence left behind at all. Will definitely use again!"

"They know old houses and Burke was unfazed by the craziness that happened to our house in the last 90 years! He worked perfectly with us and with vintage fixtures that we (my wife sourced, I carry stuff) sourced like he does it all the time! He was recommended by a friend and I will recommend him to my friends as well!"

"When I bought my house it was discovered that rats had nested in my crawl space. The rats were long gone but the smell wasn't. Dillon and his crew came out and gave me a reasonable quote. They set up a fan to get the smell out until they could start the work. They went above and beyond cleaning out the old stuff, repaired vents that were coming apart and arranged to get new insulation installed. Super friendly and easy to work with."

"

It went great. Installation required two days. The installers were professional and cleaned up well after themselves. The upstairs in our house has only one vent, which is insufficient to keep it cool in the summer. Oregon Heating and Air Conditioning (OHAC) suggested sealing that vent and installing a ductless unit, which would be capable of keeping the upstairs cool in the summer. The old primary unit needed to be replaced, and OHAC suggested a variable speed unit to replace the old fixed speed unit. Everything got installed on schedule and they cleaned up after themselves nicely. The new ductless unit required pipes & wires to run down the outside of the house, and they hid them with a  cover which looked good. The new primary unit is much quieter than the old unit, and both new units are keeping the house cool in this hot weather. They should provide a 40% savings in electrical use as well.

The only hiccup was the new thermostat. It behaved strangely, and rather than spend time diagnosing the problem OHAC sent a technician out to replace it right away. The new units are so efficient they qualify for tax credits and rebates. OHAC completed all the paperwork and registered them with the manufacturers, so all we had to do was file the papers. This reduced the overall cost of the new equipment, which was great.

We've been using OHAC to maintain our old heat pump for many years and were always happy with their service and pricing. This experience was consistent with that history.

Subcontractors questions, answered by experts

British architect John Nash is credited with creating the Italianate style of architecture. The style was further popularized in the U.S. by landscape architect Andrew Jackson Downing and architect Calvert Vaux. The style spread across the U.S. due to Downing’s popular book on the style and the availability of plans and materials due to the mass production of the Industrial Revolution.

A split-level home is one that has several staggered floors connected by short staircases, while a split floor plan separates the primary bedroom from the rest of the bedrooms. Split floor plans are most often found in single-story homes, while split-level homes are always at least two stories.

You don’t have to commit to a complete home renovation to age in place comfortably—those can get pricey. Instead, focus on a few impactful changes. Consider adding a stair lift or installing ramps to eliminate barriers. Upgrading to non-slip flooring can prevent falls while adding brighter lighting can improve visibility throughout your home. These thoughtful updates can make your home much easier to navigate and enhance your comfort and safety without the stress and cost of a complete overhaul.

While possible for small projects, professional designers ensure compliance with building codes and structural integrity.

Typically, general remodeling involves architects, contractors, interior designers, electricians, plumbers, and sometimes structural engineers. Each plays a role in bringing the project from concept to completion.
