"He provided an estimate for tiling a backsplash, half bath and laundry room.  He seemed very knowledgeable and experienced.  I went with another contractor due to time constraints."

"We originally did a report on this company when the work was performed. We rated this company all A's. About 6 months after the install, we noticed that a tile was cracked but we did not do anything about it. A year after the install, we called Tip Top Tile back to the house because we notice there were about 10 tiles cracked. He came to the house and very quickly indicated that it was not an installation problem that it was a problem with our tiles. He indicated that they were poor quality. He also stated that there was nothing more he could do. Bob never informed us when he was installing the tiles that they were of poor quality. Actually, he said they were average quality. If he would have indicated that they were poor quality, I would have purchased new tiles. Bob also never made us sign anything indicating that the tiles were poor quality and that he was not responsible if there was a problem down the road. Here we are three and a half years later and approximately 30 - 40 percent of our tiles are cracked. There are jagged edges and we have cut ourselves while cleaning the floor. It is very dangerous and the floor has to be replaced. We contacted other installers and each installer indicated Bob did a poor job because he did not put thin set down before he put the cement board down. Bob cut corners and we are now paying for it. The floor is still shifting due to the heating and cooling and the tiles are cracking. Average price to have my floor ripped up and a new floor installed is approximately 8,000 to 10,000. We contacted an attorney and discussed the case with him. The attorney agreed that corners were cut and that it was the fault of the installer. The only problem is that we only had two years to seek legal action and we were to late. If you use Tip Top Tile, please beware. We will not use him again."

"As always, Bob was great! Very responsive, professional, and left the work area probably cleaner than before he began. The shutter(blown off in a storm)was a minor "while we had him out" item, and was mounted back on the house securely despite a broken(original)fastener. The thresholds were the "main event" for this interaction with On The Job. We wanted to have some sort of transition trim installed between the adjacent tile and flooring, and had seen something we liked online but could not find it in any local stores. Bob came out to measure and take a sample of our home's woodwork. He then arranged for a custom-shaped trim, stained it to(perfectly!)match our existing trim, and installed all the thresholds neatly and in a strong and secure manner. In fact, though not in his original quote, Bob called during the installation to let us know that several doors needed to be shaved down to accommodate the trim, and he wanted to check in with us before cutting into the doors, which we appreciated(some people might not have wanted them shaved). The thresholds look great and the quality of the work means that these high-wear items should last us for years! As long as he was set up to shave the doors for the thresholds, Bob even shaved down one for us(in a no-trim doorway, upon our request)which was dragging on the carpet. It took quite some time(over a month, I believe)for Bob to obtain the threshold wood and stain it. However, since this was a non-urgent project for us, we hadn't asked for the job to be done in any particular time frame and didn't mind the delay. Bob has helped us out with several small fix-it type projects around the house in the past and we have no doubt that he would have come through sooner if we'd indicated that there was any urgency to the job. He did kindly recognize and apologize for the delay, stating that he's been very busy-our secret must have gotten out! To be completely clear, we don't view the delay as a negative aspect of this interaction, just let Bob know if timing is an issue for you and we're sure he'll meet your deadline."

Grout Tile Cleaners questions, answered by experts

To clean stone tiles, first sweep or vacuum to remove dirt particles. Use a mild, pH-neutral detergent and warm water to mop. Be careful not to use acidic cleaning solutions, such as vinegar and lemon juice, which can damage the surface.

You’ve tackled the pee stain on the carpet, but that smell still lingers in the air. Yuck! Fortunately, you can use certain sprays to help remove the odor. A homemade baking soda spray, made with 1/4 cup of baking soda and 2 cups of water in a spray bottle, can help remove the smell of pee. You can also use an enzymatic cleaner directly on the pee stain to deodorize it.

Yes, mold can grow under your shower tiles if they aren’t thoroughly waterproofed. Even if you have a durable, non-porous tile material, water can make its way through grout or gaps around the edges of the shower. This will slowly erode the grout, which can cause tiles to come loose. It can also trap moisture behind tiles, and within a day or two, mold and mildew can rapidly grow.

Discoloration, cracking, or water absorption marks are key indicators that grout needs attention.

Before you begin caulking a shower, you’ll need to use a utility knife or solvent to remove the old caulk and inspect the area for mold. If needed, take appropriate steps to get rid of the mold, then wipe everything down with dish soap and warm water before letting it dry completely. Finally, surround the caulking area with two strips of blue painter’s tape—one above the joint where you’re caulking and another below it.
