"If you want a home inspection you can trust hire Lee. He is thorough, knowledgeable, and qualified. He explains things as he inspects the property. He encourages the buyer to participate in the inspection. He explains what will be in his report and then provides you with a well written, detailed report with pictures."

"I recently looked up appliance repair services on Angie's List for a friend who lives in Albuquerque. Since ABC Appliance Repair had very high ratings and because I was pleased with the service they provided in 2011 while inspecting and repairing appliances that were covered under my Home Warranty plan, I recommended them. My friend was very pleased with the service provided. After she sent me an email thanking me for the advice, I asked her if I could share her feedback with Angie's List. She said, "Sure," so here it is:

"Oven guy from ABC Appliance Repair came-was very polite, clean and cleaned up after the work was accomplished --One and 1/2 hours to the tune of almost $500.00--but that was ok. "Mother board" was shot. His name was Ray and because he was running about an hour early , he called and asked if he could come early. OK by me.
I was very pleased with the service, and he was good about telling me what he was going to do next---like turn off the power to the whole house--asked permission actually. Pleasant, polite young man.
Thanks for your advice. I will use them again should I have the occasion~~~"

"I called Choice and reported my problems. They issued a work order and within the hour, I had been notified by S & J Plumbing that they would be here on Thursday. I could not make the time, so I called them and they politely scheduled for the next day. They showed up early, looked over the problems , called in the work to make sure it was covered and they repaired or fixed everything that was needed. They worked on my house like they were working on their own home. After done, they completely cleaned up, reminded me that they guarantee their work, and left. The gentleman who worked on my house was a professional and a credit to his company. I cannot say enough about the quality of work and their concern for everything. I will never forget such a wonderful experience and will not hesitate to recommend Choice Home Warranty. Thank you so much."

"The technician did an excellent job. It did take a while to get the repair finished, but that was due to Bertazzoni delivering the parts. I have had multiple problems with this particular appliance. My range now works better than it did when new, but I have a feeling that even if I have continuing problems with it, American Home Shield will just repair rather than replace due to the cost of the range. By the way, I'm not exactly sure of the date of the repair."

Home Inspection questions, answered by experts

Generally, you can tell if a home is bolted to the foundation by checking the foundation for plates. If you see that your foundational plates connect to wood or bolts protruding from them, this means that you have a bolted foundation. However, it's always wise to bring a home inspector in to confirm if your foundation is secure.

Using your realtor’s inspector may potentially speed up the home-buying process in that realtors are unlikely to recommend someone they’ve had prior difficulties with regarding scheduling or report turnaround time. There are other factors to consider, though—you don’t want a rushed inspection or a partial report. It’s more important that you work with a home inspector who can do a thorough assessment and explain any issues to you clearly.

Prepare to leave your home for a long absence by making sure small appliances and electronic devices are unplugged. You should also shut valves to your sinks, dishwasher, and washing machine. Set your thermostat closer to outside temperatures or a minimum of 55 degrees Fahrenheit, stop your mail (or have someone pick it up), and put at least one light on a timer.

Full home electrical inspections are mandatory if you’re buying a new home, but if you’re just looking for a safety checkup, you have some flexibility. If you don’t have any concerns and your property is relatively new, a basic inspection is usually sufficient. If it’s been a long time since your home was last inspected, or it’s an older home, a full home inspection can help catch any concerns that may fly under the radar.

In some cases, a home inspector tests the indoor air quality if properly certified. Most of the time, however, they’ll outsource the work to a professional air quality consultant. Testing indoor air for pollutants requires several certifications and a suite of specialized tools. Many HVAC and home inspection pros have this certification.
