Customers say: True professional

"We moved to Santa Fe from lush green northeast about a year ago. We looked at landscaping professionals on the net and found Summersweet, wanting to create a patch of green for our new house. Meeting Eric, we were struck by his certitude about the design of the garden and what would thrive in the Santa Fe climate. Eric's design of the garden and the execution of his concept was flawless. He created an oasis in the desert for us with flagstone courtyard and a water feature and a xeriscape in the backyard. Eric's crew were exemplary in implementing his ideation into a reality. They were professional and very easy to get along with. We highly recommend Summersweet landscaping for your projects. You will be delighted with the outcome."

"Walter and his crew did an excellent job completely relandscaping my yard from the ground up. They ground a stump, did the grading, installed retaining walls and underground drainage, installed sod, planted all kinds plants, and laid boulders, gravel and pavers. They also built two giant brick walls that collectively stretched about half an acre. They were professional, respectful, responsive, kind and they showed up when they said they would. A couple times mistakes were made because of me and they corrected it and didn’t charge me. Overall, we received a great value for the price we paid and we highly recommend their services."

"This company built a French drain to move water in an area that floods. The project went well and the work was very fast and they came prepared. They also installed a path with railroad ties and gravel so that we can safely walk down the hill to our garden. Lastly, Ernie and his crew moved railroad ties to help us access our property. The price was very fair and the estimate was very accurate: No surprises! These guys care and are very honest. No BS. I would use them again."

Architects questions, answered by experts

When hiring a pro for architectural services in Albuquerque, prioritize those with experience in high desert climate-responsive design and local building codes. Look for a portfolio with similar projects and knowledge of Southwestern traditions like adobe. A strong professional network, including relationships with local contractors and familiarity with city utilities like PNM, is essential for navigating your project smoothly and efficiently.

Helpful?

Your Albuquerque home's structure can complicate architectural service projects if it has thick adobe walls, traditional vigas, or is a post-WWII tract home with structural limitations. Look for foundation cracks caused by expansive clay soils or drainage issues on flat roofs. The presence of a caliche hardpan layer in the soil can also make excavation more complex and costly for your project.

Helpful?

In Albuquerque, signs that a previous architectural service project needs redoing include water stains from monsoon rains, indicating poor drainage, or excessive heating and cooling costs from inadequate insulation. Also look for rapid UV damage to exterior materials or foundation cracks from unaddressed expansive soils. Any work completed without the proper city permits or inspections is a major red flag requiring professional assessment.

Helpful?

To ensure a smooth architectural service project in Albuquerque, verify your property's zoning and check for historic district rules, especially near Old Town. Plan for the high desert climate by maximizing southern exposure for passive solar heat and designing for monsoon rains. It's also critical to follow New Mexico's seismic design requirements and consider wildfire risks in foothills areas for a safe and efficient process.

Helpful?

Before starting architectural service projects in Albuquerque, contact New Mexico 811 to mark utility lines and review any HOA guidelines. Verify property easements and setbacks to avoid boundary issues. Budget for potential development impact fees and allow at least two to four weeks for the city’s standard plan review. Planning construction between April and October helps avoid weather-related delays common in the region.
