You send in your floor plan, timeline and desires and they "launch" it to designers around the globe. You can offer any amount you want as a award. Designers submit their designs (I got about 15) and you pick your top 3. You can even invite friends and family to help you decide. Those 3 share your award.
I asked for only floor plans because my award was lower than any architect I contacted, but got many submissions with 3D pictures of rooms from several views! I was able to picture what the finished project would look like.
I didn't find one design that appealed to me by itself but the submissions enabled me to combine ideas into a floor plan that I liked.

Good, we are still sifting through the designs, but very impressed with creativity.
I uploaded the floor plan, including stairs, loly columns, doors, and hvac. I then launched a competition for $500. I was a bit put off by ArcBazar contacting me suggesting I have a higher award limit. I replied back that the going rate for basement design services by the local basement companies was 200-500.
With a few weeks, I had several companies and individuals submit their design ideas. Some were elaborate, some were well thought out. We picked three winners (1st,2nd, 3rd).
We choose the best features of each, gave them to a contractor who re-did formal blueprints for us. We chose BetterBasement Co as our contractor (another Angie?s list highly ranked company).
ArcBazar offers many levels of competition and it comes down to how much work you are going to put in before the competition, and what level of work you need done. I didn?t need blue prints; I wanted practical idea and a vision.
I was thrilled! 9 people signed up to the contest and 7 people submitted before the deadline. I provided feedback to the contestants throughout the contest. I was amazed at the level of detail I received. Some better than others. I chose one design for the Bar wall remodel (Previously a bookcase) and one design for the TV wall (Previously an entertainment center). What was awesome was that the designers were from all over the world. (Spain, Albania, Egypt, Indonesia, Egypt, United States, Armenia, Romania, Indonesia). The winner was from Armenia. 2nd place was from Indonesia.
I took the renderings and floor plans and provided them to 2 contractors, who were very surprised at the level of details and were easily able to provide quotes. They did not know about this service but were very interested to refer Arcbazar to their customers.
I have great photos of the transformation from old, to design, to completed.
