The last review for Hilltop on Angi's is from June 2020. Maybe they have no crews in 2021, but they sell themselves as a huge company with lots of trucks and workers. It's been almost 3 months and they aren't even 1/4 done with the work. They send one person, sometimes 2, to look like there is progress. They don't always have the tools. We've paid them almost the full amount and we have little to show for it. If you are considering them, get a Completion Date in writing. We were stupid and didn't. They go fast on those jobs that have high traffic and visibility, but for the rest of us....We're tucked away in a neighborhood. It will take them a year at this rate. We are incredibly frustrated and disappointed in this company. We liked talking and setting up the contract with Jim, but it was all words. We actually thought we'd have a dependable landscaper who would help us through the years, planting and maintaining the landscape. We can't handle working with them at this point. Jim should have said that they couldn't get it done within a reasonable timetable and not agree to take the job. That would have been the honest thing to do. We would have respected that. We don't respect the 'stringing along the client for months' approach.

Jim and his crew were wonderful. The xeriscape front yard looks beautiful. They were quick to return and fix a broken bubbler and brought a new plant.

Hilltop met with us, prepared an innovative landscape design based on our needs and wishes, completely removed our old landscaping, and installed a new modern landscape that matched the approved design plan. It was delightful to work with such great experienced people and crew.

In October of last year (2016) we contracted with Hilltop to landscape an area that was all weeds due to septic system replacement. Jim, the owner of Hilltop, was extremely responsive and receptive to our needs and our extensive input to the project. Without charge, he created the first design and then modified it with our input prior to any contract being signed. Although their website concentrates on hardscaping, they did a great job with our project which consisted of removing the old weeds, sifting and reusing the dirt, placing ground cloth, and placing large rocks and plants. They installed irrigation pipes to the new plants and connected it to the existing system. They also cut back the larger plants that we wanted to keep and reused decorative stones whenever possible. Jim's recommendations for xeric plants were excellent and all the plants are doing well one year later. All the work was completed in a very professional manner and within budget. I would definitely hire them again.

Working with Ruben and his crew was fun. While the project took longer than expected because of the boom was broken, the work did get done. The workers are respectful and very hard-working. My trees look beautiful and happy, and without a doubt I will use HillTop again for future pruning projects.

It was an disaster. They tried very hard, so E for effort. They had to replace the whole yard three times. The quality of their turf supplier, was not good. It came from New Mexico. It just was not good.

Hilltop sent out two very skilled individuals who dug many holes to locate tubing, determine flow direction and find the source of the flow and likely location of the blockage. After several hours, the problem area was located and the tubing was replaced. We now have irrigation restored to our plants. The blockage was caused by tree roots.

I've had very good experiences with them. They're right now doing some more work for us. They're not cheap. They're a little more than average pricing, but they're very good.

The whole landscaping job took about 7 days to complete with 4-6 installers. Their work was meticulous and did an excellent job laying down the moss rock retaining walls and planters. They did not rush through the job and did an excellent clean up afterwards. A few months later, some plants died and they came out right away to replace them under warranty.

My experience with Hilltop is pretty mixed to be honest. They did a fantastic job removing a large tree in the front of my home which took several days to complete. The remained of my contracted service, I am sad to say, was far less great. After removal of the tree, I was told that to remove the stump there would be an additional charge of $200 which I thought was included in the full removal of the tree on the initial quote.
They trimmed the remainder of the trees  as requested though near the end of the job I reminded them to trim a large branch overhanging the home. I suspect that they were in a hurry to be done and heard a large bang as this branch was carelessly dropped on roof. I now have to call a roofer to repair the damage to the roof. Honestly, I'd look elsewhere before having Hilltop take care of your property.

In the past we had used Hilltop to trim our large cottonwood trees (a big job!) and other trees in our yard. They did a great job. The company showed that it is exceptional, however, when we had a gigantic cottonwood limb fall on our house late one Friday afternoon. Fred, their arborist, called his team as they were going home and a number of them agreed to come early Saturday morning to remove the limb from our roof, which was in an extremely precarious and dangerous position. Hilltop employees are skilled at their jobs, and they take great care of their customers. Our family sleeps safe tonight!

Jim Forrester was friendly, knowledgable, professional, and detail-oriented in his plan and estimate.  He provided a plan including computer generated landscape drawings with his estimate.  Hilltop came up with some ideas we had not thought of to improve our landscape.  The workers showed up on time, worked hard and executed the plan diligently.  They were responsible and flexible and were able to solve some unexpected issues that came up during the project.  All this was done on-time and without extra costs.  The workers and foreman were friendly and knowledgeable. Jim and his team took pride in their work.  We would highly recommend Hilltop.

Being from out of town, I interviewed several landscape companies.  Friends had recommended Hilltop because they had been around a long time and were reliable and understood my HOA landscaping rules and regulations (which are very strict)/  Another company wanted $67,000. to do the work.

I have to say that Hilltop was excellent-they really met and even exceeded my expectations.  The owner himself came out and discussed what I needed and he continued to stay in touch with me throughout the entire process often stopping by to check on things.  He provided me with a Project manager and a supervisor who was always on the job.  The three of them talked constantly about things that needed to be changed as the project went along.  They were very detail oriented and paid attention to my requests and changes without batting an eye.

When the work was done, the project manager told me to call him anytime for problems that can occur and assured me that they would make it right.  At the end of the project, the owner himself came to go over things with me and made sure that I was happy.

I really don't feel that I could have found a better company to do my landscape work.  I just always knew they were on top of things and had my best interest at heart.  Since I am a single gal, I have to be careful with who I hire and after doing a lot of homework, I know I made a good decision.  I never had "bad vibes" about the personnel or the work, which is a wonderful thing.

I felt the price was very fair after getting bids from other landscape companies.  I did not want to hire someone who I could not trust or depend on even tho it may have been a bit cheaper.  I wanted a reliable stable company who I knew would be in business for the long term and could work with me in the future should things need fixing.

Lastly, they even provided a port a potty for their crew so that no one ever came into my house.  Just one of those nice little touches that make things easier for the homeowner.

They are excellent! They do a good job, they evaluate the condition of the trees and then they trim it properly, they do it on time, and they clean up everything. They are kind of pricey. I have been using them for years.

OK... this was a MASSIVE project. We live on significant slope and how the foundation of our house was 'shored up' when it was built in1989 has not stood the test of a modest period of time. Animals digging under the rocks, weather, and maybe not the best design to begin with made it necessary to get serious about solving the problem. (I can't even put words to how poorly the original deck was built... )
We did a lot of research here on Angie's List for landscape companies that could provide engineering services along with making things look pretty. We settled on two, and received bids from both. Hilltop also provided a stunning architectural-type drawing of how the finished project would look, with the suggested plants identified, types of stones identified, and everything. Since we have no landscaping background the drawing was simply fantastic to help us imagine what their finished 'look' would be. The bid from Hilltop was notably lower, resolved all of our concerns, and was far more creative so we took the plunge (we have never hired work done before because we, generally speaking, can build/do/fix pretty much whatever we need... but this was way beyond d.i.y.).
The biggest compliment I can give is that when this project was finished they created something that LOOKED LIKE US. The owner, Jim Forrester, met with us on our initial consultation. What a gem of a person. He walked around the problem area, listened to us and could pick up from our conversation with him 'who we are'. He didn't just focus on solving the problems, he and his team somehow included two of us in the design. Even after such extraordinary changes, our home looks like us, not like somebody had some great ideas about xeriscaping and then came in and landscaped our place with their look.
Our project was huge - they may say it was a 'normal size project' but it sure seemed huge to us. It took just over two months. Having folks (technically strangers to begin with) all over the place, every day, with so many different things going on is a strange experience. The employees - every single one of them - were respectful and pleasant (even when the work was physically extremely demanding and likely tedious). The foreman was excellent, patient and didn't miss a beat. The supervisor was helpful and also never missed a beat - between the two of them every question got answered and they kept things moving all the time.
Jim came up to check the progress on a regular basis which was really special, it made us feel well cared for. This company does extremely large-scale projects so to have personal attention on what would be a small project, comparatively, surprised us in a very good way.
When the gravel driveway got a bit chewed up due to really heavy rain, they brought in gravel and made everything as good as new. When the decorative gravel was spread at the very end of the project they were very generous with it which made the place look gorgeous. Our deck, like many decks, has a few fussy spots where special cuts/cutouts need to be made - these were done with tremendous skill and simply vanish - beautifully. No detail was overlooked or considered unimportant, no skimping or corner-cutting - this company is THE BEST. There is a reason they have been around so long... we will hire them for our next landscaping project without hesitation.
