They trimmed the remainder of the trees as requested though near the end of the job I reminded them to trim a large branch overhanging the home. I suspect that they were in a hurry to be done and heard a large bang as this branch was carelessly dropped on roof. I now have to call a roofer to repair the damage to the roof. Honestly, I'd look elsewhere before having Hilltop take care of your property.
Being from out of town, I interviewed several landscape companies. Friends had recommended Hilltop because they had been around a long time and were reliable and understood my HOA landscaping rules and regulations (which are very strict)/ Another company wanted $67,000. to do the work.
I have to say that Hilltop was excellent-they really met and even exceeded my expectations. The owner himself came out and discussed what I needed and he continued to stay in touch with me throughout the entire process often stopping by to check on things. He provided me with a Project manager and a supervisor who was always on the job. The three of them talked constantly about things that needed to be changed as the project went along. They were very detail oriented and paid attention to my requests and changes without batting an eye.
When the work was done, the project manager told me to call him anytime for problems that can occur and assured me that they would make it right. At the end of the project, the owner himself came to go over things with me and made sure that I was happy.
I really don't feel that I could have found a better company to do my landscape work. I just always knew they were on top of things and had my best interest at heart. Since I am a single gal, I have to be careful with who I hire and after doing a lot of homework, I know I made a good decision. I never had "bad vibes" about the personnel or the work, which is a wonderful thing.
I felt the price was very fair after getting bids from other landscape companies. I did not want to hire someone who I could not trust or depend on even tho it may have been a bit cheaper. I wanted a reliable stable company who I knew would be in business for the long term and could work with me in the future should things need fixing.
Lastly, they even provided a port a potty for their crew so that no one ever came into my house. Just one of those nice little touches that make things easier for the homeowner.
They were very responsive to our changes to the original plan, which made all the difference in the outcome. (At one point 20 feet of retaining wall had to be demolished and rebuilt several feet away from the original location)
The biggest selling point was that Jim Forrester came up with an excellent design on a beautiful drawing that allowed us to visualize what the completed project was going to look like.
The project took 3 weeks to complete but this was fortunate because it allowed us to make alterations in the plan. A previous bidder was going to finish in 4-5 days using power equipment and I am very glad that we did not chose that option because it would not have allowed us to see the project take shape gradually and detect the flaw in our original plan.
Following my neighbor's advice I took pictures at different stages of the work and now I have record of where various pipes and electrical wires are located underground.
My only gripe: the water feature uses a 670 watt pump (little giant WGP80PW rated 2400-6000 GPH) which pumps too much water for my taste through 1.25 inch piping. A smaller pump and smaller piping could have resulted in lesser water flow and a quieter water feature. There is a handy switch next to our door to the back yard that allows us to easily turn off the pump anytime it is not needed.
6/11/2015 The landscaping looks as good or better as it did the day it was finished. We are very glad we undertook this project. I started using Hilltop more for smaller jobs Ii used to do myself replacing sprinkler heads elsewhere, arborist consultation etc. They consistently deliver good service at a reasonable price.
