They trimmed the remainder of the trees as requested though near the end of the job I reminded them to trim a large branch overhanging the home. I suspect that they were in a hurry to be done and heard a large bang as this branch was carelessly dropped on roof. I now have to call a roofer to repair the damage to the roof. Honestly, I'd look elsewhere before having Hilltop take care of your property.
Being from out of town, I interviewed several landscape companies. Friends had recommended Hilltop because they had been around a long time and were reliable and understood my HOA landscaping rules and regulations (which are very strict)/ Another company wanted $67,000. to do the work.
I have to say that Hilltop was excellent-they really met and even exceeded my expectations. The owner himself came out and discussed what I needed and he continued to stay in touch with me throughout the entire process often stopping by to check on things. He provided me with a Project manager and a supervisor who was always on the job. The three of them talked constantly about things that needed to be changed as the project went along. They were very detail oriented and paid attention to my requests and changes without batting an eye.
When the work was done, the project manager told me to call him anytime for problems that can occur and assured me that they would make it right. At the end of the project, the owner himself came to go over things with me and made sure that I was happy.
I really don't feel that I could have found a better company to do my landscape work. I just always knew they were on top of things and had my best interest at heart. Since I am a single gal, I have to be careful with who I hire and after doing a lot of homework, I know I made a good decision. I never had "bad vibes" about the personnel or the work, which is a wonderful thing.
I felt the price was very fair after getting bids from other landscape companies. I did not want to hire someone who I could not trust or depend on even tho it may have been a bit cheaper. I wanted a reliable stable company who I knew would be in business for the long term and could work with me in the future should things need fixing.
Lastly, they even provided a port a potty for their crew so that no one ever came into my house. Just one of those nice little touches that make things easier for the homeowner.
We did a lot of research here on Angie's List for landscape companies that could provide engineering services along with making things look pretty. We settled on two, and received bids from both. Hilltop also provided a stunning architectural-type drawing of how the finished project would look, with the suggested plants identified, types of stones identified, and everything. Since we have no landscaping background the drawing was simply fantastic to help us imagine what their finished 'look' would be. The bid from Hilltop was notably lower, resolved all of our concerns, and was far more creative so we took the plunge (we have never hired work done before because we, generally speaking, can build/do/fix pretty much whatever we need... but this was way beyond d.i.y.).
The biggest compliment I can give is that when this project was finished they created something that LOOKED LIKE US. The owner, Jim Forrester, met with us on our initial consultation. What a gem of a person. He walked around the problem area, listened to us and could pick up from our conversation with him 'who we are'. He didn't just focus on solving the problems, he and his team somehow included two of us in the design. Even after such extraordinary changes, our home looks like us, not like somebody had some great ideas about xeriscaping and then came in and landscaped our place with their look.
Our project was huge - they may say it was a 'normal size project' but it sure seemed huge to us. It took just over two months. Having folks (technically strangers to begin with) all over the place, every day, with so many different things going on is a strange experience. The employees - every single one of them - were respectful and pleasant (even when the work was physically extremely demanding and likely tedious). The foreman was excellent, patient and didn't miss a beat. The supervisor was helpful and also never missed a beat - between the two of them every question got answered and they kept things moving all the time.
Jim came up to check the progress on a regular basis which was really special, it made us feel well cared for. This company does extremely large-scale projects so to have personal attention on what would be a small project, comparatively, surprised us in a very good way.
When the gravel driveway got a bit chewed up due to really heavy rain, they brought in gravel and made everything as good as new. When the decorative gravel was spread at the very end of the project they were very generous with it which made the place look gorgeous. Our deck, like many decks, has a few fussy spots where special cuts/cutouts need to be made - these were done with tremendous skill and simply vanish - beautifully. No detail was overlooked or considered unimportant, no skimping or corner-cutting - this company is THE BEST. There is a reason they have been around so long... we will hire them for our next landscaping project without hesitation.
