"Rodrigo and his team completely transformed my kitchen. They painted my wooden stained cabinets, walls, trim and ceiling. The cabinets look like new! They are expert painters and pay close attention to detail. I would hire them again in the future and highly recommend them to anyone in need of their services!"

"Wes and the crew at Straight Edge Painting Pros were outstanding. Wes quickly returned my calls, gave a very reasonable quote, and the crew did an outstanding job repairing damaged wood and staining the house. In addition we had new wood garage doors installed after the house was stained and the Straight Edge team came back right after installation to stain these doors as part of the original estimate. We are very satisfied and would strongly recommend Straight Edge Painting Pros to anyone looking for house painters."

"Southend Painters painted the exterior of my house, stained a deck and provided carpentry work for rotting wood on my front porch. Although the original paint job wasn’t what I expected, they worked with me, applied a second coat and now my house looks beautiful. Throughout it all, they were very courteous and professional."

"We are so happy with the work Alexander and his team did for us - staining our newly installed stair balusters and railings. The quality of work was fantastic, and the team was responsive and professional. We were very impressed with the preparation and care Alexander and his team put into making sure they kept a clean area and prevented any mess with the stain. We absolutely would hire again!"

"The quality of the paint was not very good, especially on the deck it only looked good for about 3 years. They did come back out to touch up the house but said that the deck was not included in the warranty. Now we are going to find someone to do it again because of the poor quality of their materials."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

It’s best to prime composite decking before painting. This promotes better paint adhesion, helps create a smooth finish, and can mean the paint job will last longer. Always follow the manufacturer’s instructions for application, allow ample primer drying time before painting (typically 24 to 48 hours), and thoroughly clean the deck boards to promote the best adhesion.

For the longest-lasting exterior paint, consider acrylic or enamel (oil-based) paints. Acrylic paints, including acrylic latex and acrylic enamel, are known for withstanding harsh weather and sun exposure. Enamel-based paints are also one of the most durable options available. While latex paint is common, it typically has a shorter lifespan than acrylic or oil-based options. The paint's finish also affects its durability; a higher gloss finish is generally more durable. For resistance to moisture and cracking, matte and satin finishes can be effective, while a high-gloss acrylic or oil-based paint offers a combination of maximum longevity and durability.

Yes, you must thoroughly clean your deck before staining. If you don't, dirt, debris, grease, and mildew can get trapped between the wood and the new stain. This not only looks unsightly but also prevents the stain from penetrating the wood properly, reducing its ability to protect the deck from weather and UV rays. As a result, the stain won't last as long or look as good. Any existing mold or mildew left untreated can continue to grow beneath the new stain, potentially leading to wood rot and structural damage. Always wait at least 48 hours after cleaning for the wood to dry completely before applying stain.

It is not always necessary to remove old stain before restaining a deck. If the previous stain is in good condition and is compatible with the new stain, you may be able to apply a new coat after thorough cleaning. However, if the old stain is in bad condition, flaking, or peeling, it is best to remove it completely to ensure an even surface and proper adhesion for the new coat. Staining over a damaged layer can lead to an uneven finish and poor penetration. For best results, test a small area first and consult the stain manufacturer's guidelines.

Applying too much sealer to a deck might seem like extra protection, but it can cause more harm than good. Wood is a porous material with a limited capacity to absorb liquids. When you go overboard with sealer, the excess can't soak in and instead forms a film on the surface. This leftover layer is prone to peeling, cracking, and trapping moisture, ultimately defeating the purpose of sealing in the first place.
