"Until now, we've never had any luck finding painters that are dependable and knowledgeable. Many only provide the labor: they can use a brush but have no expertise and are unable (or unwilling) to guide you on the proper prepping and materials needed to do the job correctly. Others are undependable: they constantly delay the start date, don't show up when schedule, don't return to fix mistakes, etc. Jim Valentine, the owner of Valentine Painting, was professional and promptly answered all my questions. He was very knowledgeable about the proper materials and work needed to do the job properly. This was a big job and I wanted to make sure it was done right so it would last. I was concerned because some of the wood on the siding and deck was recently replaced while the rest was old. He guided me on all the different type of stains and paints needed to properly protect the exterior: the cedar siding on the house used one type of stain, gutters and garage doors needed a paint for metals, the foundation needed a paint for cement, the window trim, fence and shutters used other paints and the deck, porch and walkway areas needed yet a different type of stain. Although Jim was more expensive than some of the other bids, I felt I was paying for the expertise. Valentine's price was higher than the small companies/individual painters. However, many of those bids did not include the paint/stain in the quote and they said they "would do whatever prepping treatment I wanted" and would "paint with whatever I picked out." If I was a paint expert, that might have been fine. But I am not! Conversely, Valentine's price was slightly lower than the quote I received from one of the national, franchise paint companies and Jim was much more responsive. The paint crew (Noah, Elmer and Jennifer) did a great job and were pleasant to work with. Noah (the foreman) seemed to be genuinely concerned that the work was performed to our satisfaction. They completed the job well before my required completion date. In the past, we've put off painting projects because we always dread trying to find someone. Next time, I will call Valentine Painting first."

They then applied stain blocker to the water stains on the ceilings from a leaking roof that was replaced. This was an insurance job. Then they cut in the perimeter of the ceiling with a brush and then rolled 2 coats of paint on each ceiling. After they were done, it was all about cleaning up and a walk through. I had moved all the furniture to the center of the rooms prior to their arrival. Hakan said it wasn't necessary but I felt better about doing it myself."
