"Wonderful experience. Ken are doing on time and went right to work changing out several worn out switches and some minor re-wiring. Great customer service - Ken did not have a part that he needed so he went to Lowes, was back in 15 minutes and completed the work. I would recommend Gowdy for your electric needs.

"ALB Electric did an amazing job on my not so simple Container house project, I had several people not want to touch it because of the complexity of the work. Not only did he knock it out of the park but he was the best price for the work needed. Highly Recommend! Passed my inspections with flying colors!"

"Absolutely Top-Tier Electrical Work Hire Them Now! Stop what you're doing. Seriously if you need electrical work done, this is the company to call. They upgraded my home panel, dug a trench, and ran a clean, powerful line to a 60-amp sub panel for my studio. And when I say they crushed it, I mean every detail was handled with precision and care. They started by uninstalling the old panel and installing the new one like seasoned pros. Every circuit was run with intention, and the new ground wires were laid flawlessly. The work in the studio? Some of the best I’ve ever seen. Power is strong, clean, and professionally routed it’s everything I hoped for and more. They didn’t just do a job they elevated the space. Their work gave me peace of mind and made the studio feel like a real extension of my home. If craftsmanship, reliability, and integrity matter to you, do yourself a favor and hire this company. You'll be genuinely impressed."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

The major difference between a GFCI breaker and an AFCI breaker is that a GFCI breaker protects against fatal shocks while an AFCI breaker prevent electrical fires. A GFCI breaker senses when the electrical current to ground is overloaded and trips to prevent major accidents or injuries. AFCI breakers trip when it detects dangerous electrical arcing.

Yes, you must use an extension cord specifically rated for outdoor use to power outdoor lights, such as Christmas lights. Extension cords intended for indoor use lack the protective properties to withstand exposure to outdoor elements. To safely hang and power lights outside your house or in your yard, always connect them to an outdoor power source using an outdoor-rated extension cord.

Yes, GFCI breakers are required for all outdoor outlets. This code requirement applies to all outlets located on balconies, decks, patios, and other outdoor lounge spaces. In addition, outdoor outlets need to have watertight covers that provide protection when cords are plugged in. If you have an older home that may not be up to code, it's a good idea to also ask your electrician about adding GFCIs to some indoor areas. Kitchens, bathrooms, basements, and any other areas of a home that are commonly exposed to moisture should have GCFI breakers.

Most ceiling light fixtures only have a black, white, and green wire, but in some cases, you’ll also find a red wire in the box. This is a second hot wire, like the black wire, and is included for ceiling light kits that have a fan.

Whole-house generators can run continuously for extended periods, even for weeks at a time (around 400 to 500 hours), as long as they have a sufficient fuel supply. However, this type of extensive use will increase wear and tear and can shorten the generator's overall lifespan. During long periods of operation, it's important to check and refill the engine oil as needed, potentially as frequently as daily depending on the model. If your generator uses a fuel tank, ensure it is kept full to prevent unexpected shutdowns.
