"Wes and the crew at Straight Edge Painting Pros were outstanding. Wes quickly returned my calls, gave a very reasonable quote, and the crew did an outstanding job repairing damaged wood and staining the house. In addition we had new wood garage doors installed after the house was stained and the Straight Edge team came back right after installation to stain these doors as part of the original estimate. We are very satisfied and would strongly recommend Straight Edge Painting Pros to anyone looking for house painters."

Customers say: True professional

"Franklin and crew were very disciplined workers. We were looking for not only good workmanship but good craftsmanship and SCS provided both. Partial replacement of old, obsolete Masonite siding was done well to the house and shed. The exterior of the house and shed was washed and painted. The deck, tree house and swing were washed and refinished, The driveway and sidewalk were powerscrubbed. Walkaround on job completion pointed out minor discrepancies which were gladly and immediately corrected. Check written to honest and Godly Family Man."

"It was awesome to walk in and see a brand new space. The store had become dark and did not feel welcoming. After the painting it felt fresh, welcoming and like new. I can’t wait for our long term customers to see it. The guys that did the work were also very respectful of our store and contents to keep any paint from going astray. They are a great group of guys who do exceptional work."

"Ukie Painting went above and beyond on my exterior painting and brick limewashing! I am completing a full home renovation at the time of the painting, and my GC and builder team complimented the Ukie Painting team on their professionalism and workmanship. The crew cleaned up every day, was courteous to the team working inside the house, and spent ample time on the prep work to correct a former painter’s job and ensure a superior finished product. For the limewash, they steered me in the right direction on color and customized the application and mixture to achieve my desired finish. It’s difficult to find limewash vendors, so this is one of their offerings that I think differentiates them from competitors. I cannot say enough good things about my experience with Ukie Painting. Everyone from Vitalii, Andrii, Cristian, and Carmen were fantastic to work with, and I look forward to the day when we can collaborate on another project together!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

If you have a smooth, already bonded concrete surface, painting a concrete pool deck can be a great way to brighten up the area and add longevity. If the surface has another covering or a different type of paint has been used previously, you won’t be able to paint it without removing the existing coating. Wooden decks benefit from painting as it helps to keep them watertight. Quality pool deck paints also help make the surface less slippery and less likely to gather mold and mildew or prematurely crack.

Yes, you can and should paint or stain pressure-treated wood to help prevent the boards from cracking. However, you must wait for the wood to dry out completely before applying any finish. Freshly treated wood can take weeks or even months to dry; a common recommendation is to wait three to six months. To check if the wood is ready, perform a simple water test: drip some water onto the surface. If the water beads up, the wood is still too wet and needs more time to dry. If the wood absorbs the water, it is dry enough to be painted or stained. You can proceed with building your deck or fence while the wood is still wet, but you will need to wait to apply the paint or stain.

Ipe wood can last up to 75 years with minimal maintenance because its own oils help to preserve it. However, to get the most out of your Ipe wood deck, you should perform some routine maintenance, including regular cleaning, sweeping of leaves and debris, and rinsing spills with a hose. It’s also important to repair any deep scratches as soon as you spot them and reseal the deck annually to protect against scratches and scuffs.

Staining or sealing a cedar deck or fence is highly recommended to extend its lifespan and protect it from the elements. While cedar is naturally resistant to mold and mildew, it is not impervious to damage from moisture, sun exposure, splintering, fading, and rot over time. Applying a protective finish creates a shield that preserves the wood's strength and appearance, potentially extending its life by five to 10 years.

When choosing a finish, it's helpful to understand the difference between a sealer and a stain. A sealer sits on top of the wood, whereas a combination stain and sealer soaks into the top layer. Because it penetrates the wood, a stain generally offers better protection against UV damage and rot and lasts significantly longer. For the best results that also preserve the wood's natural color, consider using a near-translucent stain.

To maintain protection, plan on reapplying the stain or sealer every two to three years, either as a DIY project or by hiring a professional.

Whether to brush or roll stain on wood depends on the project and your preference. Brushing is ideal for smaller, intricate areas and offers more control over the application, ensuring thorough coverage and penetration into the wood's grain.

Conversely, rolling is efficient for more extensive, flat surfaces and can save time. However, it is not always the best fit for textured or uneven wood. Some projects may benefit from combining both methods, using a brush for detail work and a roller for broader areas. Ultimately, the choice between brushing and rolling depends on the specific requirements of your staining project.
