"When Ted arrived it was for a completely different project quote. An emergency occured while he was here and he graciously stayed and helped us in what could have been a very bad situation. He dealt directly with the energy company and reduced any stress or anxiety over getting us back up and running. Above and beyond any customary customer service. Will have him back to do the original project and highly recommend for anyone with their electrical needs."

Electrical questions, answered by experts

Most mechanical and digital timers will only turn your Christmas lights on and off once per day, but a smart timer will likely do so as many times as you want.

A sump pump can be plugged into a regular, 110-volt outlet with three-prong openings, but it must have GFCI protections per the NEC, meaning you’ll need a GFCI outlet and circuit. Sump pumps require two outlet openings, one for the plug to the motor and one for the float switch.

The size of the microwave you choose may change this answer, but for standard over-the-range microwaves, 120 volts and a three-prong grounded outlet is needed for your device.

You can have power but no lights if the light switch is damaged. A damaged light switch is often caused by regular wear and tear or loose wires. In addition, simple problems such as a burnt-out light bulb or an unplugged lamp could be the cause of not having working lights.

You’ll need to locate and hire an electrician near you if there’s an electrical project you don’t feel comfortable tackling yourself. Generally, look for a contractor that specializes in the type of appliance or component that you need help with. For wiring, outlets and similar projects, a general electrician is your best bet. For larger remodels, a general contractor will often take care of electrical projects via subcontractors.
