"Coming from a big city like New York I didn’t know much about septic systems. So it was all knew to me. I started to have water coming up in the yard. I noticed that it had a foul smell and a small puddle in the back yard. I contacted a buddy of mine who has a septic tank at his home. He told me to contact a company he used about a month ago. NC septic and pump specialist. He told me that they did a drain field line job for him and that it was awesome. So I called and made an appointment. It was a 9-11 am appointment and they showed up at about 9:30 and even called 30 min before they showed up. He arrived and introduced himself as Gage Martin the owner. I advised him that he came highly recommend by a good friend of mine. I took him to the area that had the puddle . He advised me that it would have to be pumped out and he can let me know more after. After pumping it down he advised me that the tank was in bad shape and should be all the cracks and route’s growing with in the tank. I could see that it was just rotting away. I advised Mr Martin that i was not to up on septic systems. He took his time and explained everything to me step by step. The way it works, what not to put in the tank, how the system actually operates. I asked him to quote me a price for a new tank. He had his office contact me with a quote with in an hour. and pictures of the inside and outside of the tank as well as all the damage to the tank. Also gave me the information needed to contact the people in the city and county to begin the process for the install. Even Help me with obtaining a permit to do the work. The work took about 2 days after I received the permit. I have a new tank and my system is running great. Thank you Gage for going above and beyond. For taking the time to explain all the moving parts of a septic system. Letting me know what to look out for and what not to put inside the tank. He even put me on a yearly check up. They will send me an email and remind me when it’s time to get my tank pumped. Thank you NC Septic & Pump Specialist for making my septic experience not so crappy. Lol."

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Unexpected expenses during plumbing projects in NC often stem from hidden crawl space damage, such as mold remediation or wood rot. You must also account for mandatory permit fees and required code upgrades for older homes. Upgrading water service connections triggers utility tap fees. Additionally, repairing underground water and sewer laterals requires extensive excavation, leading to significant landscaping and clay soil restoration expenses.

Helpful?

Cosmetic plumbing projects, like swapping a faucet, do not require permits but must account for local water hardness and chloramines that degrade rubber fixtures. Functional plumbing upgrades, such as moving drains or replacing water heaters, require municipal permits and mandatory code compliance reviews. For functional work in North Carolina, you must hire a licensed professional to ensure all structural and environmental health requirements are met safely.

Helpful?

For basic plumbing maintenance in Pineville, keep pipe insulation on hand to protect exposed pipes in your crawl space during winter freezes. A basic moisture meter is essential for detecting hidden leaks early. You should also maintain good crawl space lighting. Finally, keep drain clearing tools available to manage tree root intrusion, and ensure you know the exact location of your interior main water shutoff valve.

Helpful?

Before starting plumbing work in Pineville, inspect your crawl space for existing moisture or mold to prevent mid-project delays. Identify the pipe material to ensure you do not have outdated gray polybutylene supply lines. Locate and test your interior main water shutoff valve. Always verify your contractor holds an active state license, and schedule mandatory municipal inspections well in advance to avoid long holding periods with open walls.

Helpful?

In Pineville, a minor plumbing drip after a winter freeze indicates a cracked pipe that will expand. Slow leaks in crawl spaces accelerate wood rot due to high local humidity. Watch for minor pressure drops, which point to underground pipes shifting in clay-heavy soil. If your home has gray polybutylene pipes, a small recurring leak signals systemic pipe degradation requiring immediate attention from a licensed local professional.
