"Mold in our Home: Blatant negligence by Closets by Design Installer. ABSOLUTELY DO NOT RECOMMEND UNLESS YOU WANT MOLD IN YOUR HOME ! The installer for Closets by Design while installing the kitchen pantry tip in screw for fall protection on top of the pantry hit the sewer pipe that caused sewage water to leak near our food containers and caused Mold all around the walls and Insulation with sewage water leaking around it. The pictures show all the damage done to our home our walls by the Gross Negligence of Closets by Design Installers. The Installer DID NOT have or used any STUD Finder or any other tools to avoid hitting the sewer pipe during the installation thus clearly showing that Closets by Design does NOT care about the destroying customers homes or have the skilled or professional installers or they provide the, with needed tools or compensation to do a professional installation. They rush through jobs and these mistakes are made and customers like us are left to suffer it’s Mold inside our home as a direct result of their negligence. See the pictures for all the damage and Mold caused by Closets by Design and absolutely do not hire these crooks who pretend to be experts in Closets design and Installation while all they do is destroy customers homes and their health with Mold in their homes and walls by hitting their “Sewer pipes “. Think about this dirty sewage water was near our food storage and within 6 feet of our stove in the kitchen. Closets by Design doesn’t care about it and it would happen to you because their installers do not have the tools or the expertise and do not care if they pierce your pipe and flood the walls and home or in our case the sewer pipe and cause mold in our home. We learned our lesson the hard way but I want others to be aware as we are the cautionary tale for the greed and neglect of Closets by Design who employ sub standard installers who do not have the right tools or expertise and what happened to us and as you can see from the pictures is a living proof of the same !!"

Though I started my company 16 years ago with the idea that customer satisfaction should be #1, I have been in the construction industry for 28 years working in all phases of building. I pride myself in the knowledge that I listen to what the customer wants and am able to give the customer a final product that they are happy with. I'm able to do this because I am on the job doing the actual work or there when my sub-contractors are working. I keep a connection with my customers by letting them know that they can call me any time that I may not be at the job. My goal is to design a project so that it blends in with the house and neighborhood and looks as if it was there from when the house was built. I use sub-contractors for the specialty trades such as electrical, plumbing, heating and cooling, and other trades such as drywall, insulation, block masons, and framing specialist if the jobs are bigger and need more manpower. My company consist of myself and one other employee so to keep that personal touch there. I also work with homeowners who are trying to sell their homes and need small repairs done after the home inspectors have left their list, or to enhance the curb appeal. I also love working with people who have small jobs that need to be done around the house that may be more than they wish to handle. I have also worked with owners who have wanted to build their own homes and do work on it themselves but need guidance in the planning and implementation of such a project.I will do as little or as much as the owner wishes. I do not charge for estimates. If the owner wishes me to design and draw plans fees are charged based upon what the owner wishes for me to do and develope. I will give a homeowner a price based upon what they want and work with them if their wants are over their budgets to get the most for their money. We are especially sensitive to homeowners knowing that they are living in the home when we are doing work and make sure that we use every precaution to keep the jobsite clean and safe for everyone in the family. "Absolutely Fantastic I have worked with many wonderful contractors over the years but Rick Cox (dba Carolina Carpenter) is at the top of the list. He and his son, Josh, are extremely talented, resourceful and get the job done at a reasonable cost. They and the electrician, plumber and other professionals they use are delightful to work with and of the highest honesty and integrity. In June 2018 my wife and I purchased a house in Connestee Falls, Brevard, NC which was beautifully located but in need a great deal of work. After interviewing a number of contractors, we chose Rick because of his directness, obvious competence and easy manner. The renovation required complete gutting of the core areas, including the removal of several walls and a faux stone wood-burning fireplace. Rick started while we were still in NY and when we arrived in mid-August, he had neatly removed the fireplace. In the following 11 months, he replaced it with gas burning fireplaces in the living room and adjoining Master Bedroom (a very difficult thing to do in the space we had), expanded the rear hall, closed several exterior windows, installed 4 exterior windows and sliding doors, re-floored, re-sided and painted most of the common areas, rebuilt and upgraded the stairway to the lower level and put in a fantastic new kitchen. The project cost six figures and encountered many setbacks as removal of walls and floors exposed poor electrical work and many other preexisting deficiencies. However, in each case, Rick, Josh and his associates developed creative solutions and, as we went along, they helped us refine our vision of what we wanted so that the finished product far exceeded our initial expectations. With his fine carpentry expertise, Rick provided a new beamed ceiling and log mantle and wood work around the new living room fireplace which is itself the artistic focal point of the room. He also transformed an eye-sore half wall into a beautiful built-in cabinet which is integral to the new dining area. Rick and Josh work quietly and efficiently and are upfront about timelines and their availability. In fact, when the demands of a difficult new client caused them to fall behind the timeline they set, they worked on weekends to get current. You would be fortunate to have Rick and Josh working with you. We were. They came as workmen but stayed as friends. "Daniel the owner came out and gave us the estimate. Very knowledgeable, it was the highest bid but we thought with his experience it would be done right. He started and finished on time. He said he would be here everyday overseeing his crew, which was not the case. He always was in a hurry and said he was working on a big job he was trying to finish up. That?s not my problem. One day only one person showed up & there was a language barrier. The 1st day they came to tape etc. before the painting portion. I had written down what i wanted rehung and what holes needed to be covered, as we walked around for me to show him he said that was not necessary his crew would mark everything. Well that did not happen and many mistakes were made. The assembly of cabinets mirrors lights and fan went well. A quick walkthrough was done at end. I paid in cash and asked for a receipt but have not received, have realized since some areas weren?t painted and they broke my blinds. He has not responded."

Remodel Design questions, answered by experts

You can install coffered ceilings in any room where the existing ceiling structure can support the additional weight and provide enough clearance. However, you’ll often see them in living rooms, dens, kitchens, bedrooms, home offices, libraries, dining rooms, and home theaters. Install a coffered ceiling wherever you want an elegant look.

Home office renovations are tax deductible in certain circumstances. First, you must be eligible to take a deduction for your home office. From a federal tax standpoint, you must be a business owner or self-employed to take this deduction. If you are an employee working from home, you cannot take the home office tax deduction federally. (If you pay state income taxes, some states do allow this deduction.) If you are eligible to take a home office deduction, you should be able to take deductions for your home office renovation.

Many people will install a bow window in a living room, allowing them to add more light or even create a new built-in sitting area in this room. A bow window is a popular dining area/kitchen window idea, too, as it may deliver some extra seating in a nook. With the extra sunlight bow windows provide, they’re popular places to enjoy a mid-morning cup of coffee.

Yes, you can install a bay window in an existing house. You’ll need to have a structural engineer draw up plans to add the necessary support to your exterior load-bearing walls and a general contractor to make the changes to the framing around the new wall opening. This will cost an average of $3,000. After that work is done, a window installer can set the new bay window in place.

Adding a bedroom or second bathroom has the biggest effect on the value of the house. The difference in market value between a 2-bedroom and a 3-bedroom house is massive as many families looking to upsize will want the extra room. While there is an upper limit where adding bedrooms doesn’t make sense when it comes to increasing value—a 9-bedroom home, for example—most homes see the most increase from these two types of rooms.
