Tim, my contractor and I met in mid January. Tim said he would contact the counter top material representative about the odd color variance in the counter. He said the chip in the counter and scratch in the sink were not there at installation and blamed them on the plumber who installed the fixture and hooked up the plumbing. He said plumbers are often responsible for damage such as I found. I asked if there was a way to repair the chip and he said he would ask the rep. He did agree to replace the sink. At the end of January, I met with Tim and the rep. The rep said that the color variance occurs when the protective cling sheet is separated from the stone material. He applied some solutions and cleaned the stone to make the splotches disappear. He recommended a way to smooth out the chip. Tim said he would be in touch about the sink. From January to the end of June I did not hear from Tim. I left a phone message and he did return the call. He said he had recently seen a note on his desk about the sink replacement but had been busy. We agreed on July 1 and he said he or the installers would confirm before arrival. No one called but two men appeared at the door on July 1. They had no name badges or company shirts and no name on the van. I did open the door and one said they were there to replace the sink. I asked if they knew what to do about the chip in the counter and they both said no. I relayed what the manufacturer's rep told Tim and me. There was a loud announcement from the man under the sink at one point and when I asked what was going on, the other man glossed over it and said it was nothing. The sink was replaced and the counter had apparently been addressed. When I lightly ran my hand around the sink it felt smooth. Since the bathroom is used only by overnight guests, it was a couple of weeks later when I ran water in the sink while cleaning. As I put items under the sink I saw a small accumulation of water directly under the sink drain line. While running the water, I saw water slowly running down the drain line. While polishing the stainless steel sink faucet I found small indentations in the metal which were never there before. I sent Tim an email explaining the leak and faucet damages. He replied that it had been too long since his men had installed the sink for him to do anything about either issue. In subsequent writings, Tim again blamed the original plumber and claimed that he informed ProSource that a plumber needed to meet his men when the sink was replaced. He also claimed that his men called him on the day of the service call to report that there was no plumber present and that he told them if I insisted, they could reconnect the sink pipes but he would not be responsible for any leaks. I checked with ProSource and the manager said they had not heard from him about the sink replacement or having a plumber present. Neither my contractor nor I had heard anything either. His men never mentioned the word plumber to me. My plumber fixed the drain line leak. He said two pipes were not tight. He applied a tape wrap to the threads on one pipe and then connected the two.
Since my new bathroom had been used only by family guests before the sink was replaced and I cleaned it after use, I can say with certainty that the faucet was not damaged before the R&L men replaced the sink. The drain pipe did not leak before the sink was replaced. There are several good reviews for R&L. None of them involve an issue with product or installation. There is one review where there was a big problem and Tim did nothing. Tim does not do well with problems. From my perspective, he does not take responsibility for ANY problems.
In an attempt to arbitrate this issue, Tim sent answers to my issues that were inaccurate and he sited conversations which cannot be proven. When Tim is hired directly by a customer, there is a contract. I had no contract with him and therefore had no way to know any stipulations which may appear in his contracts. He stated that the job was small and referred to the fact that it was not worth much money to him. His words indicated that he would not spend time on problems if he could avoid it. Since his workers automatically reconnected the plumbing drain line when they installed the sink, I believe that the leak is the responsibility of R&L Stone and Marble. Since there were no workmen in the bathroom since completion except those sent by R&L Stone & Marble, I believe that the faucet damage is also their responsibility. I will amend this review if my costs for damages are reimbursed. He also sold me a very nice sink for a great price. After someone came out and measured the sink, it took approx. 10 business days and they delivered and installed it very quickly. The countertop and sink were cut perfectly, so the installation went smoothly. There was one place under my old countertop that had a gap that the installers cut a piece of wood and filled in so the granite would be properly supported and not crack. "LVP looks great and tile in the kitchen look great but the trim and baseboards were not finished and I had to have another contractor come in and install them. The stairwell was sanded and stained and I was told they could match the stain for the stairs to the LVP and that wasn’t true either. The stairs came out pink. Now I’m having another contractor come in and fix. I would not recommend to a friend."
