I would grade them A on price, but they're the only ones I've used in forever, and I can't even tell you right out what their rate is but to me it's reasonable.
I sound like their best friend, but I just think they are awesome. Always on time, very professional. What's great about them too is they have the same staff that's been there for years. If they have a new person, usually someone older comes with them but they've got a lot of continuity so they know us, we know them. It's just really nice.
The problem came during the installation of the reverse osmosis filtration system I bought at Lowe's. I knew since I purchased the system that I was responsible for the parts but during the installation the drain fitting was broken and rather than be told that, a hose clamp was used to try to keep it from leaking. The plumber who installed it had plenty of time to tell me about the problem and show me where to look for a leak, since he had to show me how to sanitize the tank and flush it after he left.
After flushing the filter watered tank I noticed a puddle of water on the floor in front of the sink. Only when I called did he tell me about the broken piece and how he tried to fix it with the hose clamp. After two trips to Lowe's and reading the instructions I saw where the instructions warn against over-tightening this plastic fitting because it might break.
I chose to replace the piece myself since Hobbs was assuming no responsibility for the installation of something I bought and without over tightening that drain piece, it now works fine. The office called a few days later to see if I needed the plumber to come back out and I told them I installed it myself. They called back a few days later and asked for payment and it was for the reconnect/disconnect as well as the additional $150 for the installation of the filtration system. There was no offer of a discount for breaking the piece, nor any credit toward the next time I used them. Of course there was no apology from the plumber or the company for the broken part.
Not the worst service I've received from anyone but nothing to recommend them either.
I shouldn't have to tell a plumber to cut of water flow to a leaking appliance.
When tenants first reported issue, had them try to use plunger to resolve (with enough persistance and good enough plunger, I've generally been able to resolve enough to get drain moving, then use lye to really clean out the old cast iron pipes).
Tenants talked to couple companies that were more (including the and quot;nationaland quot; name for drain clearing that once they came out wanted nearly $400 vs. lower initial quote on phone).
By time I got around to looking up who I had used before and making call to see about their pricing for a drain clog, when called tenant with details they had already used Hobbs who was fine but a bit more than would have spent.
"All pricing was quoted upfront and approved before any work was started. Only a $59.50 service trip fee was charged, as quoted and agreed to, our signed invoice copy reflects this also. We do not charge by the hour, we charge by each job, which most plumbing hvac and electrical companies do now in modern times. This is also explained to each one of our clients beforehand and is also printed in rather large print on our service order. Two servicemen happen to be together due to a larger job being done afterwords requiring two men in the same area. The work may have been performed a bit faster, but doesn't mean any less work was done. Also more work and parts were installed that was not mentioned by the member. We are very sorry this member was not completely satisfied. Had we known, even been given a slight clue, we would have gladly been willing to work with them to achieve complete satisfaction."
