"I highly recommend Crosstown Concrete. The customer service and communication were amazing. The work was completed one day earlier than quoted. The crew cleaned up every day. This was our second project with them."

"Al helped plan a landscaping project involving flattening a hill along one side of our driveway. He suggested a couple of solutions considering the entire cost of the project, not just his portion (for example including the cost of hauling soil vs. regrading vs. repair work to a sprinkler system). We also worked out a plan where we could relocate some of our natural stone wall.
He told us he had a month's work ahead of ours, which was a bit of a bummer since we would have preferred the work to start sooner, but the work started on schedule. The work was completed quickly and was exactly what we wanted and agreed to.
They solved our driveway problem!

"WOW!!  This company provided A+ service in all aspects from beginning to end.
Initially I had 4 assessments by landscaping companies for this work.  I am very particular and wanted the work to be both structurally sound (given that the retaining wall was very high and abutted right next to my house) as well as aesthetically pleasing.  Ron (the owner) came out, on time, completely understood what I was looking for, and promptly got back to me with an detailed estimate.  The other 3 companies were either overwhelmed by the engineering required to replace such a tall wall (2 of them tried to design a tiered system to get around it that would have been bizarre looking) and the other was exorbitantly priced (2x the cost of L&R and the others).  I sent an email of a photo of the decorative stone I wanted that I saw online and they knew exactly what kind of stone it was, sent Dawn over in her car with samples to show me, and we set a date for the work.
The project was a big one, having to excavate a very large hole in my yard for the engineering, build in structural support, back fill the hole with the dirt, place the decorative rock over the concrete wall and mortar it, install draining, rebuild stone stairs, build 2 curved smaller retaining walls, replace brick flooring for the landing, resod an extensive area, replant bushes, and replace 4 dead bushes.  The workers were amazingly quiet, organized, clean, and professional.  They worked tirelessly from morning until 5pm every day for several weeks.  Even on some days that it rained they created a tarp over the area to continue working.  They roped off the area with yellow tape every evening for safety.  Periodically Ron would stop by to check on the crew and check in with me to make sure things were going as I expected.  Questions I occasionally sent via email to Layla in their office were promptly and courteously answered.
The price for this project was very reasonable given the extent of the project and the perfection with which it was performed.
I highly recommend this company.  I fully expect to use them again in the future for additional landscaping needs."

"Very high quality work. Came back and fixed a part that I had messed up when I got gas and oil on the driveway. Most of the neighbors had them come and do work on their driveways after seeing mine."

"We are very pleased with the services Twin City Landscape provided for us. Debbie was tremendous at hand-holding us along the way on patio paver styles. And, like any good company, she often offered advisement on many things to consider with our overall design. The crew is always on time and they work very hard. Always impressive to see their clean up at days end as well. The final product came out great! We are very happy with the results and the communication from estimating to final bill."

"Chris was professional, friendly and easy to deal with. Even though he hadn't installed any permeable driveways, he had installed permeable patios and didn't see any problems with doing something similar with my small driveway. He even suggested some options for reusing the water. I would have accepted Chris' proposal but I found someone who installed permeable driveways using recycled material which is what I initially wanted and was having a hard time finding.

Paving Services questions, answered by experts

Asphalt and tarmac are not the same thing. Traditional tarmac, short for tarmacadam, uses tar as a binder to hold crushed stone together. Asphalt uses bitumen—a byproduct of crude oil—to bind aggregate. Though tarmac was once a go-to for roads, asphalt has become the modern standard. And these days, most surfaces referred to as “tarmac” are actually asphalt. So, while the names may overlap, the key distinction lies in the binder—tar for tarmac and bitumen for asphalt.

You’ll first need to install a base underneath your pavers for extra stability and drainage. Otherwise, the pavers can sink into the ground, and you’ll have to reinstall them. Use a base gravel layer of 4 to 6 inches for walkways and 10 to 12 inches for driveways. Compact your gravel layer every 2 to 4 inches so it’s nice and solid. After you install your gravel base, apply a 1-inch layer of sand on top.

If you notice minor cosmetic problems with your driveway, you should seal it. Look out for cracks and holes on the surface, faded asphalt or concrete, and stains from oil and other chemicals. Replacing your driveway may be necessary if you’re dealing with significant problems—¼-inch cracks, large potholes, and puddles from drainage issues. The cost to install an asphalt driveway typically ranges between $4,200 and $9,000, significantly more than resealing. Consider talking to a professional to discuss whether resurfacing your driveway—a midway project between resealing and replacing—is a better option for you.

You should place a layer of thick landscaping fabric directly over the concrete slab and then a thin layer of leveling sand over that to protect the pavers from moisture. For border pavers, you should plan on locking them in place with polyurethane adhesive. This will prevent them from shifting under foot traffic.

Heated driveways cost an average of $12 to $25 per square foot. Depending on the size of your driveway, you may pay between $3,500 to $25,000 in total. Several factors can affect your bottom line, including material, labor, and system types. Investing in a heated driveway can save on snow removal costs because it will automatically melt the snow that falls on your driveway.
