"I asked for quotes on a small job from five different companies and Randy's was the only one to call me back. We just needed a little work done to update a couple of lines and get them up to code and functional again. The techs also took the time to explain to me what current code is in the industry, which was most welcome. They also noted I had a surge supresor on one panel, but not a sub panel, so we added that in. As an IT guy with a lot of electronics around the house, keeping the numerous devices safe from a power surge is important to me. What the other installers fail to realize is a small job today may lead to bigger jobs down the line. My wife and I plan to rebuild our garage in the next year or two and install a level II charger for an electric vehicle as well as bring the house up to code as we finish remodeling it. The companies that didn't call me back won't even be asked to bid and the work will instead go to Randy's Electric."

"Our sink pipes were leaking and previous plumber said probably due to back pressure related to blockage. Craig came out and was great to work with. Friendly, hard-working and explained everything. Would definitely hire again."

"I wanted to replace an old bathtub unit with a walk-in shower. Every bit of my experience with this company, from the saleswoman they sent to the installation itself, was excellent. The work was done in two days; at multiple points the installer would ask me to come in and look, so he could explain to me what he was doing. The workers were very efficient and polite in answering my questions, and they did a good job of cleaning up after themselves. I highly recommend this company -- I couldn't be happier with my new shower!"

"Matt was an absolute delight! Professional, timely, efficient, affordable, and explained to us exactly what was happening and how to prevent it. He was even SUPER sweet to our very shy dog. Exactly what you want from a plumber: gets the job done, for not an insane amount of money, and makes the hair stuck in your drain just about as pleasant as one can make it. A+, Matt!"

Plumbing questions, answered by experts

Ignoring hard water buildup accelerates the deterioration of fixtures and pipe joints. Leaving garden hoses attached to exterior bibs traps water, causing severe freeze damage during harsh MN winters. Pouring grease down the drains of older mid-century homes damages cast iron pipes. Failing to maintain your sump pump risks catastrophic flooding during spring snowmelt in Mound. Delaying your response to lost heat causes pipes to freeze rapidly, leading to major property damage.

Helpful?

You must decide whether to pull your own city permit or have a licensed professional handle it. You also need to confirm your sump pump discharge route complies with Mound regulations. For older homes, determine the scope of pipe replacement and choose a winterization strategy for unheated spaces. Because of hard water in MN, decide on water softener installations or bypass arrangements during the plumbing process. Coordinate your schedule for mandatory city inspections.

Helpful?

Before scheduling plumbing services, document whether your property uses Mound municipal water and sewer or a private well and septic system. Note the location of your main water shutoff valve and your sump pump discharge route. Check your permit history and identify your pipe materials, especially in older converted lake cottages. Document any exterior lines or unheated spaces that experience freezing during MN winters to help professionals scope the project accurately.

Helpful?

The longevity of plumbing work relies heavily on burying underground pipes below the deep MN frost line to prevent freezing. Success also depends on securing proper permits and passing municipal inspections. Choose pipe materials compatible with the hard water in Mound and actively manage mineral scaling. Ensure adequate pipe insulation in older converted cottages. Integrate your sump system properly with drainage tiles to protect your home from high water tables.

Helpful?

Proper plumbing maintenance requires annual sump pump testing and pit cleaning before spring snowmelt in Mound. Flush your water heater yearly to remove heavy mineral sediment caused by hard water. Disconnect all exterior hoses every fall and inspect heat tape in unheated spaces to prevent freezing. Replenish your water softener salt regularly. Schedule periodic camera inspections and drain cleaning for aging sewer laterals to clear root intrusions from mature lakeshore trees.
