"When we decided to remodel our basement I contacted several contractors and was kind of surprised at the lack of response I got from a number of contractors. It literally took weeks for one contractor to call me back and some just never bothered. This was NOT the case with Fair & Square. They were very responsive from the start and after meeting with me to review the details of what we wanted to do to finish out our basement they provided me a ballpark estimate for the project. They didn’t come in as the cheapest bid but it did fit within by budget and to that point they had been the easiest to work with and seemed the most interested in the project. We signed on to have them complete the job including adding a fireplace, sound insulation in the ceiling and my favorite, the Onyx shower surround in the bathroom. They took several weeks to complete the project and were great about making sure we knew what to expect and when. If an issue came up they let us know and offered reasonable solutions. The project came in within the cost range they originally proposed and we ended up with exactly what we were looking for. I couldn’t really ask for more than that!"

"Roger was fantastic - he helped me understand pricing, shared budgets along the way, was willing to see after business hours to accommodate my work schedule, etc. He was great to work with. He did bring in an architect that operated without a contract (my bad for letting it happen) and won't release the files to me. I've since reached out to two commercial and two residential architect firms (I found the residential ones here on Angie's list) and asked them, and all 4 said since I paid for the creation of the files, in their companies, those files would belong to me. Two of them gave examples of why you would also need the files - one suggested they sometimes do exterior work while a client wants an interior designer to do some of the work, and the other firm suggested it is a normal request for the kitchen cabinetry company to make, to streamline their process. Obviously every company operates differently, and because I was too trusting and didn't have a contract in place there is nothing I can point to to take them to small claims court, but basically the architect is saying I have to continue working with him if I want this project to move forward. If you need design plans as a part of your project, I'd suggest you find your own architect and work through them directly, with a contract - it adds an additional step to the process, but the architect that came through Plumbline has created a very negative experience for me, and unfortunately now when I am ready to move forward, I have to start from scratch. Like I said, Roger was great, but just be very cautious of any groups that he introduces you to, and don't agree to work with any of them until you have a written contract in place so you aren't taken advantage of."
