"They were excellent. They quickly made a draft that only needed 3 minor adjustments. The final product was exactly what I needed. They referred me to a structural engineer for review. The whole process took half of the time that they initially estimated. I would definitely use them again."

"I had a wonderful time working with Gabrielle. She is a talented and empathetic designer who listened to what I sought in my office remodel. She was mindful of my budget and offered great advice on repurposing a few essential items I already had. The final product was so lovely I could use my office as a recording space for a work video! Gabrielle made my office into an excellent space that my whole family enjoys. I also worked with her on my house purchase and was able to initially use her expertise to look over home inspections, view houses via video chat and help me make a decision on the feasibility of said homes. Gabrielle's knowledge was imperative in my home buying decision. Furthermore, she was also pivotal in a kitchen remodle that I did in my small cottage home, attached to my main house. She helped us think of a strategy for removing a partial wall and also how to best position, construct and install a kitchen island. Needless to say, Gabrielle is a one stop shop for any building, interior and consulting needs that anyone has while building, buying, renovating or decorating a home. I highly recommend her services!"

Structural Engineering questions, answered by experts

Completing structural engineering projects in Bloomington can enhance your home’s value and marketability. Upgrades such as foundation improvements, finished basements, and energy-efficient systems appeal to buyers. Well-documented repairs and warranties provide reassurance, while updated structures reduce future maintenance concerns. These enhancements make your property stand out in Bloomington’s competitive real estate market and can attract more potential buyers.

Helpful?

In Bloomington, homeowners often skip required permits, underestimate the impact of the deep frost line on foundations, and overlook the challenges posed by clay-rich soils. Failing to address basement waterproofing, ignoring proper drainage, or attempting complex structural work without professional help can lead to long-term issues. It’s also common to neglect thermal expansion and contraction, which can cause cracks and structural stress.

Helpful?

In Bloomington, structural engineering maintenance involves inspecting foundations each spring for frost heave, checking basement waterproofing before fall, and monitoring roof integrity during winter. It’s important to regularly clear drainage systems, watch for moisture in basements, and inspect structural joints for signs of weather-related wear. Protecting steel components from road salt and updating insulation as standards evolve also helps maintain structural integrity.

Helpful?

When planning structural engineering projects in Bloomington, consider the area’s glacial soils and proximity to the Minnesota River, which can influence drainage and foundation design. Neighborhoods may have varying soil stability or lot sizes, and some locations require attention to historic preservation guidelines. Homeowners should also review HOA rules and consult professionals familiar with local freeze-thaw cycles and underground utility placements.

Helpful?

Bloomington’s climate brings wide temperature swings, deep frost penetration, and frequent freeze-thaw cycles that can stress building materials. Heavy snow, spring thaw, and summer storms require robust drainage and well-designed foundations. Construction schedules may be limited by winter weather, and both hot and cold extremes can complicate concrete work, making careful planning and material selection crucial for lasting structural results.
