"Robert installed two gas fireplaces for me, and did a fantastic job. He (and his son) are extremely likeable people, and very hard workers. They did the job quickly, with perfect quality, and came back to finish a few odds and ends associated with some broken parts from a distributor (no fault of Robert's company ... things sometimes break in transit, and Robert ensured replacements were issued, and he personally saw to the installation, ensuring it was done right). I'll definitely hire Robert again down the road, and recommend him as highly as I can. Great guy, maybe has to do with his yooper roots, I don't know!"

"They did an excellent job! They (Shadrick & Sam) were very knowledgeable, friendly, and prompt! Cleaning fireplaces is very messy work, but they protected our new carpet nicely with drop cloths. And they did a great job cleaning up after their work was complete. We will need some repairs as a result of the inspection, but Shadrick was very informative and explained why the repairs needed to be made and how the repairs would be made when we schedule the work."

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

Removing and demolishing a fireplace is extremely labor intensive work that also takes a long time. You need to use brute strength to break apart the brick and masonry, and carry the debris to a dumpster. Depending on the size of the structure, you may need multiple days to fully remove it. After removal, you need to determine how you will repair the wall that held the fireplace, which can also be quite time consuming and challenging.

While you have some flexibility in the types of wood you can use in your outdoor furnace, it's important to make wise choices for optimal performance and efficiency. Hardwoods, such as oak, maple, and cherry, are generally recommended for their higher energy content and cleaner burn. These hardwoods produce more heat per volume and tend to produce fewer creosote deposits, which can accumulate and cause a chimney fire, according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.

Although they provide heat, light, and atmosphere, pellet stoves require electricity to run certain parts, which some homeowners may find to be an unfortunate additional expense. They can also produce noises that some may find annoying, like a low rumble from the blower fan or its motor.

You can install a range hood and use the vent to protect your kitchen cabinets from heat and steam from the stovetop. For added heat protection, homeowners can install metal heat shields to exposed sections of the cabinets. It is also essential to keep cabinet surfaces clean by removing any grease buildup that can cause a fire.

Pellet stoves are designed to operate quietly, often emitting only a soft hum from the combustion fan and auger. Compared to traditional wood-burning stoves or furnaces, modern pellet stoves are relatively quiet during operation. This minimal noise ensures they can efficiently heat living spaces without causing disruption, making them a preferred choice for those seeking both comfort and peace of mind.
